Chapter 3: The Party
Danny and Star soon arrived to Michelle's house and the party was already in full-swing.
Since Michelle's parents are well-off due to their real estate business, their house is pretty big and it has an amazing pool. They even went as far as to hire a bouncer to be at the entrance, despite the fact that Michelle said that it was an open invite. There was even a velvet rope to boot.
"Wow, Michelle really went all out..."Danny said, surprised to see all of this.
"This is nothing compared to the end of the school year bash that she held last year. It was so big that she even got a live band and hired a full on caterer, not to mention there were portable restrooms because of so many people..."Star said, recalling that party and how big it was.
Anyway, they went to the door, the bouncer spoke to them.
"Name?..."The bouncer asked as he held a clipboard in his hands.
"Danny Fenton and Star Strong..."Danny said and the man nodded.
He then lifted the velvet rope and gave them entrance to this party.
"Right this way..."He said, letting them in.
"Bouncers and velvet ropes? Is that common with rich kid parties?..."Danny asked, after they were let in.
"Maybe the good ones. Michelle's folks are pretty cool but they only let her have these parties as long as that bouncer is around to keep the troublemakers out..."Star explained as they walked, like it was obvious.
Danny was curious what else was in store before they entered.
Inside
Danny and Star smiled and walked inside. Once there, the ghost boy was amazed to see the whole thing.
Michelle really went all out for her costume party as the place was pack to the brim with spooky Halloween decorations, all sorts of candy and junk food that was made to look more "festive", fake blood and cobwebs, awesome music that was playing loudly and the entire place was filled with all sorts of teenagers, all wearing costumes and were dancing up a storm or chatting with friends.
Long story short, it was the definition of a cool Halloween party.
"Wow, I heard that Michelle's parties are legendary among the seniors...but I wasn't expecting this..."Danny said as he looked around.
"You should see her Christmas parties..."Star said as they were even bigger than this.
Despite the sea of parties goers, they did see a familiar face that was approaching them.
It was Sam, who was dressed up as Nightmerica (one of her favorite horror movie characters), saw them and went to greet them.
"Guys..."She waved.
"Hey, Sam..."Danny said.
"Glad to see that you made it..."Star said, before eying her costume.
Sam noticed her and made a face once she noticed what they were wearing.
They were both dressed as Danny Phantom and Starlight Spirit respectively. The only difference is that Danny still has black hair and blue eyes, as well as no ghostly glow, while Star ditched her mask and kept her hair in her normal hairstyle.
It was still enough to make the goth girl panic and look at them like they were crazy.
"What are you guys wearing?! Knock off costumes to expose yourselves?..."Sam asked, noticing how exact his Danny Phantom costume was.
"And you actually made your own Danny Phantom costume? Seriously?!..."The goth girl asked, sounding incredulous and mildly impressed.
"Actually, this is my real suit..."Danny said and Sam was shocked.
"Wait, for real? How? Your hair and eyes haven't changed at all?..."The goth girl asked, stunned.
"Apparently, I can morph just part of my body if I want to. I just decided to keep my head in human form. Ergo...people think I'm wearing a costume..."Danny said.
"I didn't go with the white hair since that would be too much..."He said, smiling.
"And I had wanted to put on my Starlight Spirit outfit again and I figured, why not?..."Star said, twirling around.
"But, aren't you guys worried that this might be a big clue and people will figure out that these aren't actually costumes?..."Sam asked in a hush kind of voice but her best friend waved off her concerns.
"People haven't even connected the dots between Danny Fenton and Danny Phantom, or the fact that both of them are dating blonde girls with long hair...so I wouldn't worry about it..."Star said.
Sam saw their point and gave in.
"Fair enough..."She admitted.
"Anyway, nice Nightmerica costume..."Star commented.
"It's NIGHTMERICA, not Freddy Kru-..."Sam stopped once she registered what Star had just said.
"Sorry. It's just that everyone keeps thinking that I'm dressed as Freddy Kruger and it's getting really annoying. They even had the nerve to call her a rip off! As if, Nightmerica is a far more admirable character!..."Sam muttered, crossing her arms.
As if to prove her point, one girl in a fairy outfit noticed Sam and smiled.
"Nice Freddy Krueger outfit..." She said before leaving and annoying the goth girl even more.
"IT'S NOT FREDDY KRUEGER, IT'S NIGHTMERICA AND SHE'S NOT A RIPOFF!..." Sam shouted but was ignored.
Danny and Star both cringed at this and tried to calm the gothic girl down. Neither of them wanted to tell her that, yes, she is a rip off but they didn't want to anger her further.
"Like I said...great Nightmerica costume. Glad to see you chose to dress up..."Star commented, trying to change the subject.
"Well, I figured that if I had to dress up, I'd be a character that I actually like. Plus, there was NO WAY that I was gonna wear that poofy, pink, princess eye-sore of a costume that my parents ordered for me..."Sam said, frowning.
She recalled the fight that they had about it before she managed to sneak out to escape them and those horrid clothes.
Again.
"So you're parents are still on that?..."Danny asked, already knowing the answer but figured he should ask.
"Yes, they keep getting who I am wrong on purpose..."Sam muttered.
"Your folks seriously need to get a hobby or something. Maybe even a pet or go out more. It's one thing that they want you to love what they love but they go overboard..."Star said.
"Besides, no offense but bright colors or not, your parents tastes in clothes is pretty...uh...okay, it's really tacky and saccharine..."The blonde girl said, since she had seen some of the dresses that the Manson's had tried to get Sam to wear and even without being a goth, Star could understand Sam's reluctance to wear them.
They were just THAT bad!
"Tell me something that don't know! I sometimes hope that they'll either get a job like normal parents or at least have another kid so that they can spend their huge among of free time less on me and instead on someone else..."Sam said, huffing.
"Cool Krueger costume..." A guy in a vampire costume said, passing by Sam.
"I'm not- Ugh... never mind. I'd run out of air by the end of the night..."The goth girl muttered in defeat.
"Where's Tucker? I thought that he was on his way?..."Danny asked, as he looked around but didn't see his tech-savvy friend.
"He's still putting the finishing touches of his costume and helping his mom with gluing stuff on..."Sam explained.
"Oh... right..." Danny said. "Plus, he said that he's still getting things ready for tonight..."He said, smirking.
"What are you talking around?..."Star asked.
Danny chuckled and inched closer.
"Remember what happened during your dad's birthday and that bet that Tucker got into with Kwan..."Danny said.
"You mean the one where one of them had to-..."Star paused and her boyfriend nodded.
The blonde girl suddenly found herself giggling and trying hard not to burst into loud laughter since she didn't want to get attention from the other party guests.
"Oh man, I can't believe that I forgot about that..."She said, still giggling.
"Me either...anyway...we are in for quite a show later..."Danny said, chuckling.
"And don't worry, I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures and video..."Sam said, pulling out her phone.
"Nice..."Star said, still laughing.
"Nice Krueger costume..." A girl dressed like a certain street fighting Chinese woman said, passing them.
Sam chose to say nothing, annoyed people were more familiar with a mainstream horror icon than her precious Nightmerica.
"This is why I hate anything mainstream. It shadows over unique and creative works that take far more impressive decisions..."The goth girl muttered, while the couple thought that she was being dramatic.
Soon enough, the party's gracious hostess, Michelle, spotted them and walked over to greet them. The pretty senior girl was dressed up as a fortune teller and she kept a crystal ball in hand.
"Danny, Sam, Star Glad that you made it..."Michelle said as she saw what they were dressed as.
"Hey, Michelle, thanks again for inviting us..."Danny said, holding Star with an arm.
"Not a problem. Great costumes by the way..."Michelle said. "Especially yours, Danny..."She complimented.
"Oh, thanks..."He said, smiling.
"Yeah, that's the best Danny Phantom costume that I've seen so far tonight..."She said.
Danny smiled, but he and Star then looked confused.
"Wait? So far?..."Star asked, lost.
"Yeah, you're about the 5th Danny Phantom that I've seen tonight..."Michelle said as she gestured to the party guests.
Danny and Star blinked and then saw that, indeed, more people were dressed up as the ghost boy.
Among them, he saw a chubby kid with buck teeth who was dressed as that and trying and failing to hit on some girl dressed up as a nurse. He saw Joey, the blonde boy with buck teeth from their homeroom who has a shrine to Paulina in his locker, also dressed up as Danny Phantom and looking around for someone.
"I hope that Paulina comes soon. This fabric is really itchy and I'm starting to get a rash..."He complained, feeling chaffed and pulled his collar.
They saw another Danny Phantom who was clearly too out of shape for his outfit to fit. He was also gorging on food from the buffet table. There were also a couple of other girls dressed as Starlight Spirit too, complete with masks and even blonde wigs to complete the look.
They even saw one couple who was dressed up as Danny Phantom and Starlight Spirit...expect that they were cross-dressing, as in, the guy was dressed as Starlight Spirit and the girl was dressed as Danny Phantom, much to their surprise.
"This is unexpected..."Danny commented as they were watching them kiss, finding it a little awkward since they were cosplaying THEM.
Star seemed a little annoyed that so many people had the same idea as them and crossed her arms.
"Seriously? I thought we were being original here..."She muttered under her breath, which the party hostess didn't notice.
"Anyway, have fun, eat and mingle. I got more guests to greet..."Michelle said as she left to go back to her duties as party hostess.
Once she left, Star pouted while her boyfriend just laughed it off. However, it wasn't over as another faux-Phantom approached them.
Mikey, who was also dressed up as a Danny Phantom, complete with a white wig and green contact lenses, was noticing the three.
"Danny? Sam? Star?..."The geeky boy said, blinking to make sure he wasn't seeing things.
"Mikey, is that you?..."Danny asked.
"Yeah, I see that you were looking at my costume. It took me two weeks to make and I got plenty of pokes in my fingers for stitching but it was worth it..."He bragged and grinned.
He then saw that Danny was dressed the same as him and sighed.
"I guess that we both had the same idea..."He said.
"Uh...kinda..."Danny said as the geeky boy noticed the other two.
"Star, you look nice. Manson, uh... neat Krueger outfit..."Mikey said, while the goth girl just groaned.
"I'm not even gonna bother correcting anyone, this is like the 15th time so far..." She muttered.
Mikey didn't hear that, he just went back to speaking with Danny...and judging his "costume".
"Well, I'm admit that you're costume is pretty authentic looking, and I'm kinda jealous that you got someone to be your Starlight Spirit, but you totally skipped out on the white hair and glowing green eyes. Sorry, but you aren't that convincing..."Mikey said in a criticizing way. "You should have invested in a wig and contacts like I did..."He said as he gestured to the ones he is wearing.
"Dully noted..."Danny said, chuckling at the irony here.
Star, however, was not amused. They waited until Mikey left to go meet up with his friends and talk normally.
"This is what I wanted to AVOID! I hate copycats!..."Star said, irritated as she rolled her eyes.
"This is nothing, you should have seen all the sheep who dressed up as Danny and me at that lame comic book convention during the whole Freakshow reality gems thing. The one that Danny told you about..."Sam said, remembering that incident and how so many girls had the nerve to dress up like her, which is not what she wanted as an individual.
"I think you should be honored. That means people like how you dress..." Star pointed out.
The goth girl saw her point and sighed.
"I guess that's something of an upside. Or, it means that they can't find looks of their own..." Sam muttered.
"Either way, I wouldn't be bothered by it. Besides... Danny here is wearing the real thing..." Star pointed out. "Even if I'm starting to regret not coming as cowboys..."She muttered under her breath.
"Starlight, relax. It's a party and we came to have fun. Besides, you're the best looking Starlight here..."Danny said, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
Star rolled her eyes before she sighed and smiled.
"Oh, well...we're already here and dressed. I guess what's done is done. Let's just enjoy it..."Star said, wrapping her arms around his.
"Besides, either way, I have the real deal right here with me..."She said playfully as she nuzzled into his shoulder.
"Oh barf! Can you two flirt someplace else before I hope an actual ghost attacks?..."Sam asked with an eye-roll before walking away.
"Don't mind her, she's just upset nobody can tell that she's an obvious ripoff that she refuses to admit is a ripoff..." Danny stated, knowing that his female friend is very stubborn with the things she likes.
"I know..." Star said.
Soon a song played and the happy couple smiled and turned to each other, wanting to dance.
"Wanna dance?..."Danny asked, extending his hand towards her.
"With you? Always..."Star said as she took him by the hand and saw soon lead to the dance floor.
Sam saw that she was now alone and she knew that it would take a while before Tucker gets here and has someone to talk to that she's familiar with.
"Well, what do I do now?..."She mused, still unsure if she even wanted to stay.
She watched people dance, listened to people get her costume wrong, and see some scarf down junk food. Not to mention, Danny and Star are gonna spend this entire party acting all cutesy and suck face with each other like always.
"This party is so pointless..."Sam muttered, wondering why she even bothered to show up.
"Everything is pointless..."A gothic boy, dressed up as the grim reaper, said as he was next to her, looking just as disinterest as she was.
Sam noticed him and and he inched closer. She wasn't sure if she should talk to him or not, but he began talking again.
"Wanna talk someplace dark and talk about stuff that's less mainstream than this?..." He asked, looking as bored as she is.
Sam mulled it over.
On the one hand, she didn't have anyone else to talk to and at least this guy is a goth like she is. Besides, while Star and her still have their truce, she has been getting over Danny sooner than she thought she would. Even then, she still wasn't really ready to meet new people...with the possible exception of her secret admirer but she didn't want to get into that right now.
Still, she considered this once more and shrugged.
"Eh...why not? I guess it beats how upbeat this is..."She thought as she began to talk with him about gothic stuff and what they feel Halloween is suppose to be about, as the party had officially begun.
However, while Danny and Star danced together and Sam tried to socialize with the gothic boy, they had no idea of knowing that tonight's horror was on it's way, even as we speak.
