Chapter 76

Edward had known something was going on ever since the day after they switched back even though he had no idea what. Alice had occasionally blocked him, as had Esme while she worked on some unknown project. Bella had acted all innocent when he asked if she knew something, but their adventure in each other's lives hadn't magically given her the ability to lie better, so he didn't believe a word.

When he came home after a hunting trip with his brothers—neither of them knowing anything either—he was happy he hadn't been more adamant about finding out what the women were planning. Bella's scent and the sound of her heartbeat led him out to the backyard, and she was such a stunning vision wearing clothes from his era, hair pinned up, and a parasol casually protecting the little skin she was showing on her neck and face.

"Bella?" She turned to him and smiled sweetly. "What is this?"

She stood up from the cast iron bench and approached him, the long skirt swishing around her legs. "I admittedly don't know exactly how a girl of your time would act around the one she's promised herself to," she said, trying her best to sound less modern with her speech even though she knew it was most likely incorrect. "But for this afternoon, I will do my best."

Edward was thoroughly moved by the surprise and he played along by gesturing for them to go on a little stroll by the edge of the trees. He could still remember every aspect of the etiquette he was raised with, and for a short moment, Bella had given him a chance to pretend he was back there, before he had any knowledge of vampires, werewolves or parallel universes, and that she was there with him.

"Why?" Bella glanced at him and he stopped walking, prompting her to do the same. "Don't mistake me... Miss Swan, I love you even more for doing this for me, but why?"

Bella's hand twitched on the parasol handle, and Edward guessed she was fighting her urge to touch him. He was impressed when she didn't and adored that she respected the manners of his time. Had they been in public, no touching whatsoever would have been permitted, but he would let her off the hook and tell her that in the privacy of his home, it was more than fine. Passionate couples and rebellious teenagers wasn't a new thing and had always existed no matter what time period it was.

"I was given the rare opportunity to experience something I thought I never would," she said. "I got to see what you would have been like as a human in my time, and I will cherish that memory forever. I wanted to give you something similar. I want you to have a memory of you and I, being a couple, in your time, and I wanted it to feel authentic."

Her hand twitched again, and Edward smiled. "We're not in public, my love," he said. "You can touch me if you want. I won't tell on you." He reached out for her and placed a gentle hand on her waist, and he was surprised to find she wasn't as soft as she usually was. "You really went all out, didn't you? Are you wearing a corset?"

She smiled widely and nodded. "I wanted you to have the full experience."

Less than proper thoughts flew through his mind, and he looked at her hungrily. "So do I."

A/N:

I don't know what it is with names but in fics where it takes some time for the preferred nickname to be said, I melt every time it finally happens. Here, with Bella insisting in her informal nickname with everybody, having Edward call her "Miss Swan" just does weird things with me and my skips like a record xD

Anyone who can relate?

See you tomorrow!

Stay Awesome!
