Lena kept checking her watch. Alex and Kelly had asked whether they could bring Emse around trick or treating, telling her what time they expected to arrive. They were going to visit J'onn first, then Lena, before Nia, Brainy and finally Kara. After that, everyone was welcome back to their house for a small family-only party to play a few games and show off their Halloween costumes.
Lena gone a little overboard with her Halloween decorations, considering Esme was only going to see them for a few minutes when she came to collect her candy, and she'd brought enough sweets to fill the large Halloween-themed bowl twice over. She told herself she'd give the rest to Kara, or maybe leave them lying around the Tower for everyone to share.
They were already twenty minutes late, and Lena was getting a little worried. She checked her phone for any messages, but there were none. The bowl of candy was in her arms and she was hovering by the front door when she heard Kara call her name as she landed on the balcony and entered the apartment.
"Is something wrong?" Lena turned towards her, concern etched on her face.
"Everyone's fine, well mostly fine. It's nothing serious," Kara tried reassuring her. "Esme was leaving J'onn's when she was sick. Alex thinks she just ate too much candy at her school Halloween party, and Kelly asked me to let everyone know."
"Poor Esme."
Kara looked around, finally noticing Lena's apartment, then the other woman's costume, "wow. This all looks great. You look great... lovely..."
Lena laughed as Kara stumbled over her words, "thank you. I love your costume too. Sherlock Holmes, right?"
Kara pulled off her deerstalker hat, "yeah."
She didn't need to guess at Lena's costume, the pirate theme was obvious from the skull and crossbones on her hat down to the boots. Her eyes lingered a little too long on the low cut blouse Lena was wearing and she blushed as she looked away.
"Would you like some candy?" Lena asked, offering her the bowl.
Kara's eyes lit up, "I really shouldn't, Esme..."
"I brought plenty, we can leave some in the bowl and I can drop it off at her house tomorrow if she's feeling better. Would you like to stay and watch a movie, now the party has been cancelled?"
"Yes, nothing too scary. I've already spoken to Nia and Brainy."
They lived closer to Kara, so she dropped by theirs first after Alex called her. She took a chocolate bar from the bowl and unwrapped it.
"It doesn't have to be a Halloween movie," Lena told her, moving to place some of the candy she'd brought into the large bowl she kept for popcorn when she had movie nights with Kara. "What do you want to watch?"
With plenty of candy left for the Halloween bowl for Esme, Lena placed it on the side and took the popcorn bowl over to the living room with Kara walking by her side.
"Something with music and singing," Kara asked, "maybe Coco, or Encanto?"
Lena put the candy on the table in front of the sofa, then handed her the remote, "you choose, I'll make the drinks."
She decided to make some popcorn while she was in the kitchen, she wasn't interested in the candy and it wouldn't feel like a movie night without it.
Lena lay on the sofa, her head on Kara's lap as Coco finished. She'd discarded her pirate boots and hat before the movie, her waistcoat had been opened for comfort when she lay down. A piece of popcorn fell onto her hair and Kara quickly picked it back up, muttering apologies and brushing away imaginary crumbs.
Lena looked up at her, her eyes bright with tears from the ending, and smiled, "it's fine, don't worry about it."
She could see Kara had lost a few tears for the grandmothers final scenes, it wasn't the first time they had watched the movie together and she knew Kara's every reaction by heart.
"I..." Kara looked down at Lena, her hand still on the other woman's hair, then moved her hand away.
Lena sat up in one fluid motion, and turned to face her, "hey, what's wrong?"
She reached out to wipe away a teardrop still on Kara's face.
"I don't want to have to wait to tell you how I feel. Being Supergirl is dangerous, and I know I'm invulnerable to most things but I can still die."
"Kara..."
"But I don't want to die without letting you know... I..."
Lena smiled, her hand coming to cup Kara's cheek to encourage her, "it's okay."
"I'm in love with you," Kara finally released the words which had been waiting to be spoken for so long.
"I'm in love with you too," Lena told her, not giving her time to worry about whether her feelings were reciprocated.
Kara leaned in slowly, giving Lena time to back out of a kiss if it felt too soon, and was rewarded with soft lips pressing against her own.
