Ziva frowned as she returned to the bull pen. It was empty. She had not been expecting it to be empty. Sure, she knew that Gibbs had gone for a coffee run but that kept two other teammates. Both of which were not here. And McGee had not slipped down to Abby because she had just come from here and she had not seen him. Did something actually come up and they both left? Without even leaving her a message? That was odd, even for them.

Making her way towards her desk, she thought of ways to tell them off for just abandoning her. She was just as bored as they were today, there was no need to leave her out.

Then she saw a shoe. That was attached to a leg. She walked over to Tony's desk and looked down. There he was, sitting on the floor with one leg stretched out, doing absolutely nothing. She cleared her throat.
He glanced uo at her and then went back to staring into space.

"Oh, hi, Ziva. Did you get the results?"

She shook her head. "Abby informed me that she will not have the results for some time as you cannot rush science."

Which meant that they could get no further in their current case. Which was frustrating but there was nothing they could do about it. These sorts of things happened. It was not like you could click a button whenever you felt like it and all the pieces came together. She wished it could work like that but it did not.

Tony sighed heavily and went back to staring into space. Literally just staring. Was he okay? Was he broken or something? She couldn't have a defective partner, who was she supposed to tease and torment? And why was he not saying anything?

"Tony, what are you doing?" She finally asked.

"I don't know," he replied, the blank expression on his face not changing. This was starting to get really concerning. "What are you doing?"

Ziva looked down at her hands that unfortunately did not have any lab results in them.

"I do not know," she responded with a frown.

She really did not know what she was supoosed to be doing now. There was nothing she really could do. It was so odd not to have anything to do when they were in the middle of a case. Usually, they were busy, busy, busy - getting witnesses, suspects, dealing with evidence. But they had done all they could and they just needed to verify the chemicals that had been used and who had used them. A process that was taking longer than usual. Leaving her with nothing to do.

Normally it would be quite welcome in the middle of a hectic case but she was actually finding it quite annoying today. She wanted to be doing something. Anything. She needed to be kept busy.

"Is this what heartbreak feels like?" He asked. "No cases. No work to do. What's my purpose in life?"

Ziva shook her head in exasperation. It was a common feeling around her partner.

"You are being dramatic."

Which was pretty normal for Tony but this was worse than usual. And heartbreak was definitely over the top for having nothing to do while they waited. Boring? Yes. Heartbreaking? Definitely not.

"Also," she said. "We have a case. We just do not have anything to do for it right now."

"Same thing."

"It really is not."

Why did her partner have to be the dramatic one? Why couldn't she have someone like McGee? Okay, she really did prefer Tony as her partner. Just, not when he was acting like this.

"But I'm bored."

And there was the whining. She rolled her eyes.

"Tell me you aren't bored?" He asked when she didn't say anything further.

She supposed she was. Though, she was not going to admit it. Not that that mattered because Tony knew what she was thinking and patted the space next to him.

"Sit with me and let's be bored together."

Looking at Tony and then looking at her desk, with its comfortable chair, Ziva made a decision. She plopped herself next to Tony, much to his surprise.

They didn't exactly do much with their time. Actually, scratch that, they didn't do anything. Just sat they in silence. Occasionally shifting their legs into a more comfortable position.

It was kind of nice, if a bit odd.

"Where is McGee?" Ziva asked, remembering that she hadn't seen him either.

Tony shrugged. "Beats me. With Abby?"

"I just came up from there," she reminded him.

"Huh. Don't know, then."

He seemed to be completely unconcerned by this.

"Hey, guys, did you know that the vending machine has Nutter Butters stocked in it again?" He then realised that he couldn't see either of them. "Guys?"

Ziva raised a hand in the air and waved to indicate that they were here.

"Of course you left for a Nutter Butter break,"

Tony scoffed, earning himself an elbow in the ribs from Ziva.

"Ow! What was that for?"

"He just said that he just found they had them back in stock," she scolded.

"Hey, he could have already known that and then went to get them."

"Or he could have had a surprise when he went to the vending machine, he seems very happy about it."

"But-"

"Uh, hi?" McGee asked hesitantly, trying to regain their attention. What are you guys doing?"

Tony and Ziva looked at each other and then at McGee.

"We don't know," they said in unison.

He gave then a long look and then shrugged, stepping over so he could also sit down near them. They shuffled over so there was enough space.

"That sounds nice," he said.

And that is where Gibbs found them half an hour later. The three of them, sitting on the floor, staring into space.

It didn't take him that long to deliver three head slaps that got them all moving pretty quickly.
