Hey guys, sorry this last chapter took so long, I started a new semester and been working twenty-four seven. But regardless I still think it was kind of rude to stop writing right before the big finale. I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 7: Happy New Year, it'll be your last
They searched all night and all into the next evening looking for Yelena and Wanda, who would have thought that a magical witch would be hard to find. They all met up back at General Phillips base. "This is hopeless, we have to assume Wanda either took her out of the country or she already killed her" Barnes said plopping down in his chair
Kate let out a long sigh. Either way they had to pause the search, the entire city was already lining the streets for the New Years celebration. Which in Madripoor meant an entire night of looting and 'extriming' in strange places.
Kate tried to think like Wanda for a moment, she wouldn't have already killed Yelena without telling them by now. The soldiers stationed at the base started watching Madripoors New Years broadcast, but there was no Ryan Secrest so Kate didn't pay much attention.
"HELLO MADRIPOOR, WE'RE COUNTING DOWN UNTIL 2022, LET'S HOPE IT GETS AT LEAST SOMEWHAT BETTER" the broadcast blasted, why do stations always look for the most annoying radio announcer possible "but we still have a couple hours before the ball drops and were gonna be playing your requested songs, our first one goes out to Miss Kate Bishop-" the announcer said causing the room to go silent "requested by a Maximoff, she's asking you both to join her at the celebration and make your pal Yelena's new year one to remember, and with that here's 'HEROES' by Alesso" the song started playing as everyone staring arming themselves
"Kate" Wilson said getting her attention "tranquilizer arrow, the engineering guys said it can take down the hulk let alone Wanda" he said handing her the arrow
Kate pushed her way through the crowd of cheerful Madripoor residents high on who knows what, she saw Sam fly over "any sign of her" she said through her communicator
"Not yet"
"Whats up girl" the same douchebag from earlier said approaching her
"Get away from me creep" Kate said before two others grabbed her from behind "AHHHHHHHHHH" she screamed with the freaks arm over her mouth "JOHN, SAM, HELPPPPP" Kate was forcefully dragged into an old pizza shop and dropped into a chair. She immediately drew her bow and arrow and aimed at the guys. But they were suddenly acting like chickens?
"Sorry about that" a familiar voice said "I know that must have been scary" Kate turned around to see Wanda "I just needed to get you alone, this all started with us and it's only fair that it ends with us"
Kate lowered her bow and calmed down "Wanda listen to me, Yelena needs to see justice, killing her will only end her and she gets off easy" Kate said embracing her friend and trying to make her feel comfortable "give her to me and I'll let you disappear, you can move on, you can end all this"
Wanda frowned "you know I can't do that" she sorrowfully said "this isn't about making Yelena suffer, it never was" she explained "it's about making sure Yelena can't do anymore damage, maybe true justice doesn't mean making someone pay for what they've done, it's about making sure their actions are not repeated"
Kate sighed, both sides were right but she already chose her side. But she couldn't let Wilson find Wanda, if he was reluctant before then there was no way he was just going to let her go. She needed Wanda to take her to Yelena but couldn't call for backup. "Alright, let's finish this" Kate lied
"Good, Excellent, let's get going" Wanda said going out the back
Kate looked at a trash can and tossed her communicator in it. Wanda came back in "probably should let those guys go" Wanda said, twirling her fingers and letting the guys out of their trance. The two of them went out the back.
Kate followed Wanda through the crowded streets, they were both wearing hats and sunglasses to avoid detection by Wilson. For some reason she led her to the large ball drop skyscraper "this is where we're going?" Kate asked and Wanda nodded
They approached the bouncer, Wanda twirled her fingers and the bouncers eyes glowed red "Happy New Year ladies" he said letting them both in
They took an elevator to the top floor and approached a meeting room
Kate had her tranquilizer arrow ready, she could knock Wanda, take Yelena, and just not report where Wanda was. Wanda opened the door and there were five dead bodies in the room "WHAT THE HELL" Wanda screamed and checked them. Kate saw that one of them still had a hint of red aura in his eyes. There was also a chair surrounded by broken ropes "Wanda you got these guys killed"
Wanda clinched her jaw and balled her fists "goddamn…. FUUUUCCCKKKKK"
Kate moaned, Yelena was on the loose again, they were right back where they started. "Come on we need a christmas…..New Years miracle" Kate said
"HELLO" a female voice said from outside. They both darted out of the office and realized the voice was coming from the jumbotron outside, Yelena was onscreen holding a man at gunpoint "FALCON OR WHATEVER, BLACK CAPTAIN AMERICA I AM RIGHT NEXT TO THE BALL DROP AND I SURRENDER I'M BEING HUNTED BY A MAD WOMAN" she screamed on screen
"Oh, IT'S A NEW YEARS MIRACLE" Wanda cheered before darting down the hall
Kate had to think fast "Wanda wait-" she said looking around "I think I see something inside the room"
"No time" Wanda said urging her to follow her on the other side of the hall
Kate quickly pulled her tranquilizer arrow out and shot Wanda in the leg, she passed out after two seconds "sorry Wanda" Kate said before rushing up the stairs up to the roof access. She burst out and pointed an arrow at Yelena "Let him go now"
"Kate, good here arrest me, get me out of here" Yelena said holding her hand. "You, get out of here" she said to her hostage. The hostage ran for his life out the door. Kate approached her and slapped the cuffs on her "oh thank y-" Yelena said before Kate smashed her bow across her head. Yelena rolled around a little before shooting Kate a hatful glare
Kate grabbed Yelena's handcuffs and started dragging her towards the door. "Eh hem" Kate heard, she turned to she Wanda fidgeting with her tranquilizer arrow
"You realize I can read minds right," she said. Some kind of airplane sound was coming at them "hold on a sec" Wanda said before launching the tranquilizer arrow into Wilsons leg as her soared straight at them, he tumbled across the roof and fell of the other side
"WILSON" Kate said, rushing to the other side to find Wanda halted his fall right in the knick of time.
Wanda approached Yelena "Stay away" Yelena said rolling away. Wanda popped her handcuffs off and put Yelena's hands around her neck "why are you strangling yourself
"Wanda please," Kate said. Wanda threw Yelena's handcuff on one of Kate's hands, levitated her onto the new years ball and left her dangling on the ball with the handcuffs.
Suddenly two bullets were shot at Wanda, she turned around and threw Barnes and Walker back through the door. She used her powers to fuse the door locks shut. Wanda turned her attention back to Yelena "why did you do that" she said, controlling Yelena's hand to pull out her knife and jam it into her leg. Yelena screamed and cried at the same time.
Kate did a pull, quickly straightened her elbows, and let the handcuffs slam against the bar trying to break them. She did this two more times. She slid her way closer to the center to safely slide down. After one more pull up, the handcuffs broke and she was able to fall slower by sliding down the center pole. She slid
"You know I came after you in the first place because you murdered Clint, but I stayed because now I see what a monster you are" Wanda said to a suffering Yelena
Kate tried to slide faster. She slipped and fell back towards the concrete roof "AAAHHHHH" she screamed
"KATE" Wanda shouted in fear before quickly using her powers to halt her about three feet above the ground
"YAHHHHHHH" Yelena said forcing herself at Wanda, she brutally stabbed Wanda through the chest.
Kate fell again and hit her head on the concrete. The world seemed dizzy as she lifted her head to see Yelena on top of Wanda repeatedly stabbing her. Kate covered her mouth as she watched through tear filled eyes. Kate quickly shot an arrow impaling Yelena through the lower torso, she fell to the ground rolling and screaming in pain.
Kate approached Wanda. She wasn't getting any deader, Yelena just kept mutilating her because she could. "It's over Kate Bishop" Yelena said "you finally get to put me away now"
Kate stood there crying and clutching her fists in anger. She was too trusting when Yelena first confronted her. She was too slow to save Clint from her. She was too sorrowful to hunt her down herself. She was too stupid to reject Wilsons terms. And now her naivety got Wanda killed.
Yelena looked up at her "What are you waiting for-" she was cut off by Kate's hands on her neck. Kate started squeezing, Yelena's face showed more fear than any human should go through, she was sweating and shaking. "Bar….Barton wouldn' want this' ' did she really have the balls to say that. Kate squeezed harder so she couldn't speak. Yelena shut her eyes as if she was praying.
Kate shut her eyes too, preferring not to watch. But when she shut her eyes for some reason she saw Clint's face lying on the ground, Kate tried to shake it off but it seemed so real. She noticed a puddle on the ground, she had Yelena's face.
Kate opened her eyes again and let go of Yelena's neck. Yelena gasped for air and started hyperventilating. Yelena looked into Kate's eyes, no sassy remark or insult but a little gratitude.
The world was completely silent, there may have been an ocean of people cheering as the New Years ball was coming down. But all Kate could focus on was Yelena's face. Yelena sobbed like a child "thank you"
Kate stood up maintaining a hateful glare. She rolled Yelena on her side and shoved an arrow into her spine causing her to scream. Kate once again slapped handcuffs on her. Kate calmed down and started to hear the rest of the world again.
"2…1…HAPPY NEW YEAR" the thousands of people cheered on the ground
The roof access door burst open, John and Barnes came through and saw the aftermath of the scene. They looked over to Wanda's corpse and paid their respects. "You're going away for good," Barnes said, lifting Yelena onto his shoulder.
Kate needed to lie down, she did just get her smashed into concrete after all.
Kate woke up at the military base infirmary to find she had been sleeping for five hours. She stayed in bed for a couple more hours.
Wilson came in alongside a guy with an eye patch "she's alive" Wilson said bringing her a glass "saved you some champagne". Kate accepted the champagne and made a toast with them.
The guy with an eye patch held out his hand "Nick Fury" . That was Nick Fury, she was shaking Nick Fury's hand. " Someone put the broadcast of your fight on youtube, you're already trending across the globe, people are calling you a hero" him saying that felt amazing given all the people he's met. "We'd like you to lead a new team, the young Avengers, are you interested" he wanted her to lead her own team
"I…I shouldn't, I've made too many mistakes" Kate said sorrowfully
"But you understand whats wrong and right, that's one of the most important steps" Fury said with respect
Kate pondered this and realized she can make things better with this "I'll do on three conditions"
Fury seemed hesitant but pushed forward "name them"
"Clint" Kate said, starting with the most important condition "I want him memorialized as a hero, and I want his family taken care of"
"I think I can arrange that"
"John" Kate continued "clear that black mark off his record so he can work in the military again, or so he can have options again. Get his military benefits back at least"
"What Black mark" Fury said implying that it won't exist soon
"Wanda" Kate brought up the final condition "she shouldn't be remembered as a criminal, I want her to have a funeral as an Avenger and for the media to hear that she was helping us and sacrificed herself"
"Harder" Fury said "but I can make it happen"
"Then I'm in," Kate said. Fury and Wilson smiled and left the room.
Kate leaned back and turned the radio on "and now for one of my personal favorites, heres Billy Joel's Only the good die young" the announcer said as the song began (Song keeps playing)
1 week later
While in her prison cell, Yelena desperately tried to reach her hairbrush that fell off her bed. She can't reach and has to get closer in her wheelchair
John is in his house with his wife and a man in an officer's uniform brings him some important documents. John is extremely happy to see them and hugs his wife
Sam is at the gym doing clapping push ups
Kate finishes decorating her new office in San Francisco with her bows and a newspaper article of her and Clint.
She pulls out her phone and calls his family one more, they actually pick up and she shares a tearful interaction with them.
Kate, John, Wilson, Barnes, and others like Hulk, Spider-man, Doctor Strange, and Old Steve Rogers attend funerals for both Wanda and Clint
Kate finishes her meeting with a potential members father "and you're sure this position would be completely safe" the clients father asked
"Yes Ant-Man… ugh Mr. Lang" Kate stuttered
"Oh no I greatly prefer Ant-Man" Scott said "it's just that I'm a little nervous in my daughter following in my footsteps"
"Well we provide professional training and bullet proof equipment" Kate explained
"Alright that makes me feel much better" Scott said getting up "Ugh I'll get back to you in a couple days" he said leaving the room
Kate looked down at her box of Hawkeye merchandise and smiled. "Excuse me, where's the bathroom?" Kate looked up to see a woman with dark hair
"Oh down the hall and to the left" Kate responded
"Thank you," the woman said before leaving. Kate looked at her desk to see a business card that wasn't there before, she picked it up and it had a phone number on it and a title: Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Thunderbolts
