A/N Hey, guys. Welcome back to another chapter of the Riverdale season one project featuring the siblings and their parents. So first before I get started, I haven't got the chance to update last month because of my ongoing schedule conflicts whether if it's focusing with school, or writing the drafts. And most of all, because of the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, I had to check in with my one of female best friends because she's from Ukraine and I don't see her around all that much. And I don't want to bring up the news of Ukraine in our conversation because I feel uncomfortable in upsetting her since I am her best friend after all. But anyway, this is chapter twenty and this is the official start of season one episode four The Last Picture Show. In case if you guys are wondering, and I know you are, I am gonna merge the episodes from the series all in one chapter so I can wrap it up and get started on the second season. So, this is chapter twenty, based on season one episode four The Last Picture Show, and I'll see you guys at the bottom.
I only own my OCs.
Jughead's Narration: It's been a week since the discovery of Jason Blossom's body. But his death would not be the first, nor would it be the last casualty that the town of Riverdale would suffer. The Twilight Drive-In, where I work; my home away from home. A piece of town history is closing for good, just when we needed a place to escape to the most. With Sheriff Keller knocking on every door, and neighbor suspecting neighbor, every day that passes is becoming more like Salem during the witch trials. And meanwhile, the girl next door, our friendly neighborhood Hitchcock blonde, Betty Cooper, was wrestling with the knowledge that her best friend Archie Andrews was caught up in a forbidden romance.
It's been about a week since Jason's dead body was discovered at the Sweetwater River, Sheriff Keller was going to every house, knocking on the door and interviewing the families, which includes the Lodges, the Coopers, the Blossoms, the Andrews, as well as the Hawthornes. One day at the Hawthorne household, Luke was washing the dishes while Leia was feeding Thunder the dog, as she watched the small canine eating the food while she rubbed his head and ears. Later, one of their phones went off, as Leia went to the table to pick up her phone and read the text message.
"Hey, Veronica wants us to meet her, Jughead, Kevin, and Betty at the diner to talk about the drive-in theatre." she said as she walked up to her brother and showed him the text message she got from Veronica.
"Go get changed. I'll finish up here." he said.
The young Hawthorne went upstairs to her bedroom to get changed as she heard her brother turning off the sink and went to his bedroom to get changed as well. They went downstairs as Thunder trotted up to them.
"We're gonna be going out for a few minutes, Thunder. But we won't be out for long." Luke said as he bent down and petted the small canine.
The twins left their house and went to the diner to meet with their friends so they can talk about the Twilight Drive-In, a local theatre that's on the verge of being closed down permanently.
"Hey, guys. Sorry we're late." Luke called as he sat with Betty and Jughead while Leia sat with Veronica and Kevin.
"The Drive-In closing is just one more mail in the coffin that is Riverdale... No, forget Riverdale, in the coffin of the American dream. As the godfather of indie cinema, Quentin Tarantino, likes to say..." Jughead began before Kevin interrupts him.
"Please, God, no more Quentin Tarantino references." Kevin begged.
"Hey, Quentin Tarantino knows how to make really good movies." Leia commented.
"What? I'm pissed. And not just about losing my job. The Twilight Drive-In should mean something to us. People should be trying to save it." Jughead scoffed.
"In this age of Netflix and VOD, do people really want to watch a movie in a car? I mean, who even goes there?" asked Veronica.
"People who want to buy crack." Kevin replied.
"And cinephiles, and car enthusiasts." Jughead corrected before turning to Betty and Luke and asked, "Right, Bets? And Luke?"
"Totally." Betty replied and Luke agreed, "Yeah."
"Anyway, it's closing because the town owns it, but didn't invest in it. So when an anonymous buyer made Mayor McCoy an offer, she couldn't refuse..." Jughead continued before Veronica interrupts him.
"Anonymous buyer? What do they have to hide? No one cares." Veronica commented.
"I do! Also, you guys should all come to closing night. I'm thinking American Graffiti... Or is that too obvious?" Jughead wonders.
"I vote for anything starring Audrey Hepburn. Or Cate Blanchett." Veronica stated.
"I haven't watched any movies that stars Cate Blanchett for a long time." Leia commented.
"Or The Talented Mr. Ripley." Kevin offered before asking Betty, "Betty, your choices?"
The blonde doesn't say anything before Veronica asked, "Everything okay, B?"
"Yeah, I'm just thinking. Um, maybe Rebel Without a Cause?" Betty offered.
"I'm in for Rebel Without a Cause. It's a classical 1950s' movie." Luke agreed.
Hermione and Natalie approached the group's table and sets down their orders.
"Thanks, Mom." Leia and Veronica said to both Natalie and Hermione.
While Luke was taking a sip of his vanilla milkshake, he observed Cheryl sitting with Tina and Ginger at another table.
"Don't look at Cheryl and her minions. They're sitting at a table away from us." he said.
Leia gave a small glance over her left shoulder, as her blue eyes doesn't look at Cheryl and her fellow minions.
"If I would have known Mama Lodge was working as a waitress at Pop's, I never would have given Veronica a spot on the Vixens. It's off-brand, and sends a false message about acceptance." Cheryl said.
"After her TMZ-style take-down of Chuck, all of the Vixens kind of like Veronica now." Ginger pointed out.
"Do they?" asked Cheryl.
Just as Hermione approached and reached for the bill on the table, Cheryl slammed her hand on the bill at the last second.
"Be sure to put all that cash in the register. You are a Lodge, after all, and Lodges are known to have sticky fingers." Cheryl warned.
Just then, Leia and Veronica both got up and walked over to defend Hermione as Natalie walked out of the kitchen as well.
"Cheryl." Veronica began before Hermione raised her single finger to stop Veronica.
"Honey, I got this." Hermione interrupted.
"Leia, go back to the table." Natalie said to her own daughter.
"Cheryl, I went to school with your mother. She didn't know the difference between having money and having class, either." Hermione commented, with sharpness in her tone.
"And I taught my own daughter and I want her to be better than you, Cheryl." Natalie added, as her own blue eyes met with Leia's baby blue eyes.
Veronica and Leia smirked, as they went back to join their friends on the table.
"Mom definitely showed that Queen Bee who's boss, didn't she?" Luke asked his sister.
"She definitely got that from our grandmother." Leia replied.
Just then, Kevin looked up and said, "Well, that's an odd combo of people."
Luke, Betty, and Jughead all turned their heads at the same time and saw Archie, Fred, and Ms. Grundy walked in the diner.
"I'll be right back." said Betty as she got up from her seat and walked over to Archie as Luke called to the blonde, "Wait, Betty."
"Wait, what's happening?" asked Kevin.
"Oh, this isn't going to end well." Leia muttered.
The five teens looked out the window as they observed Archie and Betty having a conversation.
"What's happening out there? Do we know? Is it about me?" asked Veronica, feeling worried.
"I definitely don't think they're talking about you, Veronica." Luke replied.
The socialite then got up from her seat and went outside to talk to Archie and Betty.
"What was it like before she got here?" asked Kevin.
"I've never seen Veronica acting like this before when she and her mother moved here." Leia replied.
"I honestly cannot remember." Kevin commented.
Luke and Leia watched as Archie, Betty, and Veronica having a conversation and the only words they could hear is something about Archie's relationship with Ms. Grundy, meaning that Betty and Veronica were now aware of Archie's secret. Sometime later, the twins watched Betty's mother Alice pulling up to the diner.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me." Luke muttered.
"Out of all people that we've been running into frequently, Betty's mother shows up. She causes nothing but trouble." Leia murmured.
"No wonder mom gets into a heated argument with Betty's mother a lot of times." he said.
"I don't even want to know how mom and dad became friends with our friends' parents since they went to high school together." she agreed.
Sometime later, the twins went home as Thunder the dog trotted up to them before he ran excited circles around them and Luke bent down and petted Thunder as he rubbed his head and ears while the small canine jumped up and licked his face.
"It's been a rough night, don't you think?" Luke asked his sister.
"Honestly, after seeing Archie and his dad walking into the diner with Ms. Grundy, I definitely think this has been a weird night I ever experienced in my whole life." Leia replied.
And I will end part one there for today. So, what do you guys think? Was it a good or a bad start to part one of episode four? I want to ask you guys this, what has been your favourite season so far? I definitely think season two is my favourite one because of Archie and company is on a mission to uncover the identity of the black hood. In case you guys are wondering, I will be doing season two and season three since I haven't considered on doing season four, five, and six. And do you guys think I should write the seventh and final season once the series is concluded? Before I end today's chapter, I want to ask you guys another question. Since the crisis in Ukraine is ongoing for the past eight months, what are you guys doing to help support those who are affected by the crisis? If you have any friends who's from Ukraine, please don't hesitate to reach out to them and check on their well being. Anyway, let me know what you guys thought of part one so far and I will see you in the next chapter, because it will start part two of The Last Picture Show.
