[Skill Gained: Flash]
[Flash (novice) - LVL 1]
You perform a series of quick, sharp flicker jabs in a single breath; Flash is tough to dodge and counter due to its speed and the volume of jabs thrown out at once.
Current number of Jabs: 3
(Cost: 30/50 SP)
Two different costs?
[CLARIFICATION: The first is to use the skill, and the second is to use it with the effects of a Power Attack, which deals 2x damage and 3x critical damage.]
Good to know. I can use it twice in secession or once with a Power Attack. I've learned that my SP regenerates at a rate of 5 points per second. That'll come in handy.
Leaving the park, I felt a chill run down my spine. What the hell was that? And why didn't I notice it before?
[ANSWER: That was a barrier put up by the stray devils to ensure no one unwanted would intrude on their feeding ground. You happened to spawn here and are now leaving the barrier.]
Something tells me the admin had a hand in this. Let me guess Lunatic mode?
[CORRECT: The admin thought it necessary to see how you respond to danger. By all accounts, you have received a passing grade.]
Grumbling to myself, I continue on my way to the academy. I go over the haul from the strays. I have a total of three vials of phoenix tears; initially, there were four, but I already used one to heal my arm and missing HP. I wish I had a passive regen skill.
When I finally did arrive at the school gates, a part of me was relieved to see that I was the only one there. That relief turned to dread when I realized that I was late.
Rushing through the halls while checking my schedule, I found my homeroom and entered, "Hello. My name is Regis Chasseur. It's my first year attending school here. I hope we can all get along!"
The teacher and other students looked surprised at my sudden entrance and introduction, "Yes, well…if you'd be so kind as to take a seat."
Without saying another word, I took a seat in the back of the room. I'm not sure if I should be happy or disappointed that I didn't recognize a single face in the room. I guess this gives me more time to think, especially about one thing that has been bothering me for a while now.
Race: Human? (LVL 1)
What gives with the question mark? Is that supposed to imply that I'm not fully human? The stray devil had mentioned something about me maybe being a hybrid. Is it true?
[ANSWER: You are not a hybrid but a variant of the humans found in this world.]
A hero descendent?
Race: Human (Hero Descent) (LVL 1)
That answers that, but whose blood do I share?
[Blood and Legacy]
Objective: Discover which legendary hero you are a descendant of.
Rewards: Perks, Traits, Skills, Random Items, Racial Level up
So that's how it is, huh? Guess I shouldn't have expected any more straight answers.
The rest of the day passed without incident. No one approached me, no one important at least. Plenty of my of the girls asked me questions. Meanwhile, the guys all seemed to want me dead. I wonder if this is how Kiba feels. Perhaps I'll have to ask him when we get acquainted.
"Hmm?" my musings were interrupted when I felt like someone was watching me. It looks like it didn't take them long to notice. I wonder who it is, though.
Upon turning around, I'm greeted by hazel eyes and short white hair. I felt my ears heat up, and I think my heart stopped for a moment. Of course, the one who was watching me had to be her. Koneko Toujou was my favorite character from the series, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a crush on her. Still, nothing could prepare me for how…
"Beautiful," was the only word I could say in response to seeing her for the first time outside of an anime or picture.
Only after saying that did I realize how her ears twitched slightly as if she could hear me. With a reddened face, I quickly turned and bolted out of the school building, my embarrassment feeling immeasurable. I cursed under my breath as I moved past my students and bystanders alike.
Damn it!
I probably sounded like a total creep back there! Running away most likely didn't do me any favors either…maybe I'm overreacting? What if she didn't hear or see me at all?
Wait? Is that better or worse?
Due to being distracted by my inner ramblings, I completely didn't notice the person I accidentally bumped into.
"I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention," I apologized, checking to ensure I didn't hurt him.
"It's no problem-" he paused when he saw my face, his once carefree expression turned sour, "Damn bishounen bastard."
Issei Hyoudou, the series's protagonist, is the person I bumped into. Thank my none existent luck.
-Rias-
Today had been eventful for the heiress of Gremory. This morning before school, she and her fellow overseer Sona had come across five known stray devils that had recently made Kuoh their home. The problem was that they were all dead, granted, that wasn't a bad thing, but it did mean someone was acting in their territory without making themselves known to either Sona or herself first. After going over everything, they had only found two traces of magic that didn't belong to the strays. The first had been a tree branch, and the second had been a blade made from the bones of one of the stray's former master.
Rias sighed, placing a hand against her forehead in agitation. She had no real lead to go off of, especially when the magic they found didn't have a clear origin, so narrowing down the source took far longer than it had any reason to be. Still, it was her territory, so she had a duty to find who did the deed, and perhaps if they were strong and willing, she could even get a new Peerage member out of it.
Just as the thought entered her mind, two of her servants, Koneko and Akeno, entered the room, "I thought the two of you left for the park to investigate the area further?"
"It seems Koneko here found something of interest," Akeno said with a playful smile on her face.
"Really? And what would that be?" Rias asked, rising from her seat.
"The new student, his scent was the same as the one from the park," the white-haired girl answered in a quiet monotone.
That was surprising. Rias had considered the new student, but after looking into his history, she determined that there was nothing noteworthy. Regis Chasseur was an average teen on the surface, albeit one with an odd constitution.
"Interesting, Koneko. Do you think that you could follow him?" Rias inquired; however, she was surprised to see the nekoshou stiffen at the suggestion, "Did something happen?"
"Fufufu. From what I heard-"
"He saw me," Koneko cut off Akeno quickly before the older girl could speak.
"I see. That would complicate things. In that case, I'll ask Yuuto if he's open to the task," in response to Rias' words, Koneko lowered her head in shame.
"Sorry for causing trouble for you," she apologized, only for Rias to wave the notion away.
"It's no trouble at all, Koneko. If anything, I should thank you for bringing this to my attention. Although maybe I should ask Yuuto to make contact? Starting a friendly relationship with him might be just the leg up we need," Rias ponder more to herself than the other two.
"Should I go inform Kiba about your little plan Rias?" Akeno's question was met with an affirmative from the redhead, "Then I'll do that right away."
Rias smiled to herself; perhaps this would be a great find.
-Regis-
I was surprised by the way things have been going with Issei. At first, I thought that my being a so-called "bishounen bastard" would make it impossible for a conversation between us. That was until I let slip a little something by mistake, which has led to our current talking point.
"What? No, red is far sexier on a bunny girl outfit!" Issei argued with a heated expression on his face.
I smiled nervously before replying, "I don't know, I prefer white. It's far cuter," he looked at me as if I was insane.
"Cute? I mean, sure, but the whole point of the outfit is its sex appeal. Red emphasizes the curves and brings a feeling of passion. You, my friend, need to learn the wider range of the world of erotism!" Issei proclaimed, placing a hand on my shoulder with stars in his eyes.
"Wait? Does that mean we're friends?" I was never very good at picking up on such things, so as weird as it sounded, I figured I should ask for clarification.
"Huh? Oh, yeah might as well be. I mean, sure, I thought you were going to be another Kiba, but you seem to understand what it means to enjoy the finer things," he answered before perking up as if he remembered something.
"I just remembered that I have to be somewhere, but tomorrow if you're interested, me and a couple of my pals found a great spot to watch the kendo girls change! Tits as far as the eye can see!" Issei seemed fired up about it.
"Uh…I'll pass, maybe next time."
"Hmm, you sure?" Issei seemed surprised by my refusal, "Well, whatever suit yourself. As for me, I am heading for Valhalla!"
As Issei left for wherever he intended to go, I continued on my merry way.
[Coup De Grace]
Objectives: Kill Issei Hyoudou.
Rewards: Obtain the Boosted Gear, ensure to take his place
Taking one look at the quest was enough for me to refuse it. I had no intention of killing Issei, he hadn't done anything to me, and it's not as if he was a direct threat to me either.
[NOTED: Usually, others take the quest to gain extra power.]
I already have a Sacred Gear, which I still need to unlock. Sacred Gears respond to their wielder's emotions, so in theory, all I have to do is experience an extreme emotional response to something, and it should work.
I think I might know the thing that'll do the trick.
AN: Shorter chapter than the first but I've been really busy and wanted to get something out before the weekend. I hope it isn't too much of a letdown considering it's a lot of set-ups for things to come later, in retrospect I probably could've held off on posting the first chapter and combined it with this one but oh well.
So to address some things that I'd like to start by thanking everyone who followed and favorited this little story of mine as well as the reviews I got. I really just wanna write something that people can enjoy so it makes me happy to see that there are those who enjoy my writing so far, again I hope I can keep that up.
