Chapter Ten: The Hero
Conference Room, Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Gibraltar
The first thing I noticed when I returned to Gibraltar with Lucio, Orisa, and Efi were the wide eye stares filled with awe. The same Efi had given me. The same one Lucio and Orisa had given me when Efi recounted everything… In front of everyone on the streets… On live TV… That played across the entire world.
The Scourge of Doomfist.
The Second Hero of Numbani.
The Spy.
That was who I was now. My face had been shown across the world. It still was… And my first thought had been of my family but thankfully Athena had whipped away any information on them or their location. The only way to find them was by knowing them personally. Or through me. But that didn't stop them from spamming my phone all night with missed calls and text messages. Especially my little sister who wanted to know if I was a new hero at Overwatch…
That thought had brought a small tired smile to my face.
And on the way back, Efi had questioned me on every part of the fight while Lucio and Orisa watched with amusement. I was now her third favorite hero after her own creation Orisa and Lucio. She reminded me a lot of my little sister in some ways… And I couldn't help but think about the way Maria and I said goodbye to each other… She seemed off… But the stares had continued even when we arrived on base. The armed security guards. The maintenance crews. Every personnel on base stopped to stare at me.
Eventually, we entered the building and that's when I saw them. The other heroes stared at me differently than before. But Lena and Emily didn't. Instead, they ran to me with smiles and hugged me tightly. I felt a tired smile grow on my face as I held them. Afterwards, Winston suggested we all head to the conference room as we had built an audience with our arrival.
And here we are now. All around the table again but with Lucio, Orisa, and Efi now present. We all sat in silence while the screen showed the news report across the world. The return of Doomfist and the new Overwatch hero. But every single one of us knew what this really meant to the world.
Doomfist was back.
Talon was back.
And once again, the world was in danger.
Henry's Room, Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Gibraltar
Later at night, I laid on my back on my bed with Lena and Emily asleep beside me. All of us naked. During our meeting, it was decided that I would be a permanent resident… And agent. The next day, I would be trained in hand-to-hand combat and how to use weaponry by the other heroes. I was going to be trained to be Spy.
A hero of Overwatch.
A hero…
Quietly, I got out of bed and got dressed in my pajamas. A green t-shirt and black pajama pants. I checked to make sure Lena and Emily were still asleep.
And then I left my room.
Balcony, Watchpoint: Gibraltar, Gibraltar
The night sky was filled with many stars and the moon was full. The dark sea was calm and I saw a lighthouse I hadn't noticed before. Admittedly, I hadn't known where I was going but I had ended here. A balcony to lean on at my new home to stand on and look out onto the world.
It was beautiful.
"Couldn't sleep?"
I turned my head back to see Emily smiling at me. She wore one of my white t-shirts and blue pajama pants. She joined me, leaning against the railing and looking out at the world, beside me. I turned my head back to the sea.
"Yeah… Sorry if I woke you up." I said quietly.
She leaned her head on my left shoulder.
"Don't be. I couldn't either… You know, Lena and I were both worried…" She said just as quietly.
"I know…" I whispered.
She then cupped my right cheek to turn my head toward her. And I saw worry on her face.
"But you came back. You kept your promise."
I lowered my head.
"I know… but I put those people in danger… I was the one who started the fight… Lucio or Orisa could have handled it better… Someone could have gotten hurt because of-"
"Don't even finish that sentence." My eyes widened. Emily looked… angry. "You saved those people. People recorded footage of the real fight before it even started. You told them to leave you behind so that they could get out safely. You saved them. You saved Efi… And they told me what you said when you met them." I realized she was crying. And I was too. "You may not be like Lena, me, or the others. But that's what makes you special. You are you. And that's why we both love you, Henry Evans."
Silence. I was speechless. But… I spoke.
"I love you both too." I said tearfully. Emily giggled tearfully.
"Just make sure you tell Lena too, yeah? Although, I suspect she already knows… You make her happy. You make me happy. You make us happy…" She smiled tearfully.
Thinking back on everything that had happened… I never imagined my life would lead me here. But I had a new home. I had new friends. I had two girlfriends. Both whom I loved. And I was happy.
And…
I smiled tearfully too.

The Reluctant Hero

End of Season One
Oh boy. First, this is not the end of this story. I know I've been away for a while but I've returned to post the last two chapters of 'Season One'. And I'm aware this isn't a show but for some reason, it felt right writing it as such. Especially considering what show inspired this story.
Spy X Family
If it wasn't obvious already, Henry Evans was based on Loid Forger but more aloof and less actual Spy. Which is really the story I always wanted to tell. Originally, this story was going to be a Spy X Family and RWBY crossover before it became a Spy X Family and Overwatch crossover. But then I decided I didn't want to do a crossover so I just created Henry. I don't regret basing him on Loid but I plan for him to become his own character. And I think the next arc, or 'season' will help with that.
As for the story in general, I have a lot planned for it. Originally, I had cut out a lot but now... I kind of want to see how far I can go with it. It helped that Overwatch 2 inspired me with some of its interesting changes to certain characters both in appearance and voice lines. Regardless, I've started drafting the next 'season' of the story.
Also, I know the music lyrics are too much. I'm not even sure how many people enjoy them but I felt it helped with writing the last two chapters. I don't think I plan to do more. Maybe when a 'Season' ends but other than that, it likely won't happen as much as it did. Sorry if that bothered anyone too much but cool if it didn't.
Anyway, for those who read, liked, followed, commented, and enjoyed this story so far, thank you. Sometimes finding the motivation to write is difficult but the praise I've gotten so far has helped and it also helped that I enjoyed writing this story. My hope is that for the rest of the story, you'll smile, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll cheer for our reluctant hero.
