No. 26 No one left behind ("Why did you save me?")
~
He knew that he should run for his life. He knew that it was stupid to turn around after being almost safe.
But Keenser had to do it.
He couldn't leave the first officer behind.
Spock had managed to fight off most of the horrifying beasts when he had told Keenser to run, but the Roylan knew that even a Vulcan couldn't fight forever.
So he had grabbed a phaser he had found in front of the cave.
Not to shoot at the creatures. But to cause an explosion by overload.
He knew that there was a small hole only he could slip through. He just had to lure the last monsters into that tunnel.
So he did.
He grunted loudly and waved his arms, causing the creatures to let off of Spock.
And then he just ran for his life. His heart was beating out of his chest as he heard the monsters following him.
He wouldn't make it. God, they would catch him!
Keenser reached the hole and quickly manipulated the phaser in his hands.
Then he climbed through his exit.
He heard the explosion behind him and knew that the monsters must have been crushed.
Out of breath he made his way to the main entrance to see Spock.
He was okay.
But he looked confused.
"Why did you save me?"
Keenser just grunted, smiling slightly.
"Leave no one behind."
Spock raised an eyebrow in surprise before he nodded.
"Why… thank you Mr. Keenser."
But there was no need to thank him. He'd always risk his life for his crew.
