chapter iii. β€” conflicted

THE MOONLIGHT SHONE into the car, creating a beautiful spectrum of light. Caroline grasped the cold tile fiercely, on her steering wheel which gave her palm a stinging sensation. Tears welled up in her eyes as a pounding headache appeared in the center of her forehead, and she wiped her nose with her palm as drops of blood escaped. She furrowed her brows in confusion. She shifted her head to gaze at the moonlight.

The light was calm, soothing opposed to the velcom feeling of her mind. She glances through the rear mirror seeing her twins asleep peacefully, as the trip to chicago and back to mystic falls was exhausting for them two. She once again felt a slight drip of the ruby red come out of her nose, "What the?"

Her breaths got heavier by the second but she calmed her breathing by placing her palm on her chest and softly pressing down. Her tears streamed down her cheeks as she had a gut feeling that things would get complicated before she could even begin to change certain outcomes.

Caroline pulled up in front of a modest house with a white picket fence, the yard was newly groomed, and a small porch swing swayed gently in the air. She looked around and noticed cars parked in street and a few individuals going down the street with their dogs or young children.

Caroline furrowed as the porch lights were off, was Bonnie not home?

Caroline sighs as she grabs her phone seeing the day it, her eyes widened as it was senior prank night and all the events have already begun. She starts her car driving as fast as she can to the school, arriving she does not go in but debates about it.

Josie fluttered her eyes as she was in her car-seat with Lizze's head on her shoulder. She could see her mother staring outside, "Momma?"

Caroline closed her eyes as there were so many things that could go wrong. She knew it was not safe to bring them inside, but she could leave them alone in the car. What does she do just not take part of this as it really isn't that concerning.

If she remembers clearing Klaus discovers that Elena is key to making hybrids, so really there is no point of her being here but she was in the original timeline. How much affect will it play for her not being part of that moment?

Caroline takes a breath as Josie gently puts Lizzie's head on the window as she crawls to the front seat of the car. Josie placed her tiny hands on her mother's cheeks, "Momma you sad?"

Caroline let out a stifle chuckle wiping her tears away as she caressed her daughter's cheek. Caroline swallowed the fear in her away as she shook her head, "No, baby never. I'm tired just like I'm sure you are a little miss."

Caroline tickles her side as Josie lets out giggles that were music to her ears. The moment between the two was broken when a horrific scream was heard that woke Lizzie up as Josie clung on to her, in fear. Lizzie moved to be with her mother and sister, "Mommy what was that?"

Caroline bit her lip as she recognized that as Elena's scream. An internal debate played in her mind because: one she is out number as Stefan is all ripper mode, then there are two originals, plus the fact that she is feeling a bit weak.

Caroline reacted impulsively as she got out of the car, Josie and Lizzie following behind her. Caroline shook her head, "Stay in the car, please. Is not safe."

"Then it is not safe for you too," mumbled Lizzie as she was as stubborn as her mother. Caroline sighs knowing that handling both of them will not end well, as they will say yes to staying on car but will sneak out to be with her. Josie gripped her hand, "We are superheroes together momma."

Lizzie nodded in agreement with her older twin as Caroline bent down caressing their faces. She hugged them as she should have not entered, but what knowing her luck, what are the chances that no one inside has heard her?

But she gripped their hands, entering the school, becauseβ€” hey what is one bad moment in parenting if she isn't putting her kids in danger just this one moment.

Thankfully the hallway they enter was empty besides Stefan having Elena pressed against the locker, but the both noticed a shadow castrated over them as they turned to see Caroline with two girls hiding behind her legs.

Caroline knew that she should have just got home and ignored this. Stefan pulls away from Elena as the brunette glances at the blonde who gives a slight nod, as she begins to run away. Stefan lets her as he flashed straight to blonde in front of him.

Lizzie gazes at him as she knew he was different from her uncle Stefan, which made her visibly sad. Caroline gripped her daughter's hand as she offered a fake smile to him, "I'm assuming senior prank night is not going the way it should?"

"No it isn't," muttered Stefan. He is consciously aware that in front of him is his friend but the darker instincts are taking over. His gaze followed two little girls that hid behind her as the brunette hid her face but the blonde, he could see.

The similarities between the mini blonde girl and Caroline were obvious. Stefan hissed at her as one part was anger deep within as he thought they were friends, "You have two daughters and decide not to tell anyone?"

Caroline narrowed her eyes at him as her tone became harsh, "I don't need to tell anyone anything. Especially not to you who also hid so many things from me."

Caroline bit her lip hard that drew in blood to fall on her tongue as she refused to tighten her hold of her daughters hand, afraid to hurt them, but the anger was shaking within her. How dare he question her, when everyone always hides things from her because of is for her "protection."

She was immobilized with fury that sunk into her veins but she took deep breaths as any of them lashing out would not end well especially with her daughters here. Lizzie did not like the way her uncle was looking at her mother, "Mommy can we go home?"

Caroline nodded but before she could turn around Stefan took step forward, with his gaze darkening even more, "No. Stay, it could be fun."

Caroline felt her twins dig their nails into her legs as she could feel their fear. She will never let them feel fear or scare when she is there for them. But before she could answer a whoosh of air flashed by her as she knew who it was by the strong aura surrounding them.

Caroline slowly moves her eyes as it falls upon the familiar dark blonde curly hair man, with such intimidating presence, her cornflower blue iris falling onto his darkened blue orbs with a swirl of recognition passing through him?

Caroline felt her heart race, did Klaus time travel back in time as well or was she just acting up? Her question was answered soon enough as Josie saw the man from the store. She brightened up but before she could say anything the man turned to her uncle, well not anymore as he is scary now.

Caroline noticed him turning to Stefan, "Come on mate, I think I gave you a certain task to handle, didn't I?"

Stefan glared at him but the compulsion on him force him to nod as he flashed out the hallway to the school gym. Josie took a step forward of her mother as she smiled brightly at the man from the store, "Hi."

Klaus shifted his gaze down to the little brunette girl from the store just a day ago. He put a straight expression on as he felt a weird magic aura from the three, but snapped out of it as he waved at her who jumped excitedly.

Josie tugged her mothers shirt, "Momma he helped me pick out the bear."

Caroline almost let out a sigh of relief as that is where his recognition came from. She smiled at her daughter as she felt weird as he is so different compared to the last time they saw each other. His gaze moved to her as he said nothing but gestured his head to the door.

Caroline gave him a nod, as right now is not the moment to be a hero or anything as she grabbed both her twins hands walking out. Josie frowned a bit wondering why they were leaving but she followed her mother anyway. She turned as she waved at him one more time, "Bye."

Klaus felt a slight weird tug in him as he watched the family of three exit the school. Especially the baby vampire who has such an alluring presences and he wants to know more of her, and the slight fondness he feels for two little girls. He shook his head flashing to the gym as he has a show to put on.

Caroline had put on some gold earrings on to complete her look for the day. She sighs as today is the first day of senior year but she will be skipping it as more important things are in the way than her doing high school all over again– like yesterday as her and Klaus first meeting was different and she felt conflicted about it.

Lizzie jumped on her mother's lap and handed her the brush while Caroline began to brush her blonde hair. Caroline glanced at Josie who was putting her converse on. After last night they all just jumped into the bed together and fell asleep.

Caroline finished brushing Lizzie's hair as both twins wanted their hair loose like she did. It was a warm day so the two girls thought they all should be wearing dresses, which Caroline did not complain as is something she enjoys wearing.

Caroline stood up as the two little girls ran downstairs, all she needed to get is the talisman from Bonnie, as she does the manifestation spell because if she remembers clearly her bringing Jeremy alive opened some door from the other side. Which they need to do before Matt starts seeing Vicki and Jeremy cheats on her with Anna.

She will prevent him from hurting her but she will convince her friend that she deserves someone better, as all these events happened in the next four days giving her time to, and she needs to find a witch, as much she loves Bonnie, she does not know the extent to everything.

Caroline lets out an exhausted sigh as things were so exhausting. Lizzie glanced at her mother, "What are we doing today mommy?"

"Not sure," mumbled Caroline as she had an idea but things needed to be clearer in her mind. Josie glanced at her mother then at Lizzie as they both were staringβ€” waving at someone. Caroline furrowed her brows as no one was here, she bit her lip. Are they seeing people from the other side?

Before Caroline could question her daughters they had grabbed her hand, as they began to exit the house. Fear creeped into her spine as they walked further into the woods, entering the burial ground of witches. Caroline furrowed her brow, Bonnie and her were here for the manifestation spell in the other timeline.

Caroline glanced at her daughters as Josie glanced at her mother, "Momma hold our hand tighter."

Caroline did as Lizzie was on her left and Josie on her right. The two girls begin to mumble a spell that she could barely even hear with her super hearing. A strong wind blasted through the room as Caroline began to worry until it all came to halt.

"Hello, Caroline."

Caroline shifted her blue eyes that fell upon a beautiful older woman, with her brown curly hair and a soft smile was on her beautiful melanin skin. Caroline had a sad smile on her, "Hi, miss Shelia."

The older Bennett woman let out a chuckle at her politeness. Her eyes fell upon the twin girls who smiled brightly at her. Shelia smiled at them, "You two did a wonderful job."

Josie and Lizzie high fived each other, as they don't get to learn much magic only from what their mothers know, but they are happy regardless as she does her best all the time.

Sheila shifted her gaze to the baby vampire with a smile on her, "Things have changed haven't they child? And one of them being you are not from this timeline."

Caroline let out a shaky breath nodding to her question. A bit of faith settled into her as she glanced at the soft brown orbs, "I don't how this happened. I went to bed with my girls and then we woke up."

Sheila took a step forward as she let out breath, "I know child. They brought you back here for a reason and I will be here to guide you."

Caroline furrowed her brows, "How? And who brought us back? Why bring my daughters too if it could be dangerous?"

Sheila shook her head, "Everything will make sense with time. As for your daughters they are special witches my dear and they are the most powerful from their coven which if I'm not mistaken they might have sense them, as did many from the other side felt it as well."

Caroline sighs as she needs to protect them from their coven, the gemini coven are many things but being understanding is not one of them. Sheila clasped her hands to her, "They have magic within them, they don't need to siphon from anyone, and they get to keep their siphon abilities."

Caroline let out gasped, "It makes things worse doesn't it?"

Shelia nodded, "Yes, because you my dear are special too, but it won't be revealed just yet."

Caroline shook her head as doubt settled in her, "What do I need to prevent?"

Sheila shook her head letting out sigh, "I don't know everything yet, all I know is that the three of you came here with a purpose. I will protect you from this side as much as I can. Just do what you are doing until I get more information, okay?"

Caroline nodded as the older bennett nudged her, "I believe in you, okay? You got some powerful little girls in your hands. Whatever happens they should be your goal to protect."

Caroline immediately nodded, she won't hesitate to protect her daughters, they are her lifeline. Shelia nodded as she grabbed her hand, "One more thing. The originals and your friends will all be in your way and is due to the fact they will all sense your power."

Caroline's forehead crinkled in confusion, "What do you mean?"

Sheila sighs knowing this puts a lot of pressure on the young mother, "The moment you three step out of this burials, magic will be shifted completely," Caroline furrowed her brows, "But you said that I won't know what power it is yet."

Shelia nodded in confirmation, "Yes. It is locked until you unlock it within yourself. Your magic is something that not just the entire supernatural world would feel but the people from the other side as well. Many will be after you three."

Caroline sighs as she glances at her twin girls nodding along to the older woman's words as if they understood. Lizzie glanced at the beautiful witch in front of her, "What do we do?"

Caroline let out a groan as these two will probably bug her so much. Sheila let out a chuckle, "Handful aren't they?"

"You have no idea," mumbled Caroline as Josie jumped with Lizzie in excitement. Shelia gave Caroline a slight smirk, "I took one thing off of your bucket list to do."

Caroline furrowed her brows before she could reply a slight crush of leaves filled her ears up. Caroline turned to see her best friend with a surprised look on her, "Caroline?"

Before Caroline could reply Josie and Lizzie ran to my her hugging her legs, "Aunt Bonnie."

Bonnie's gaze shifted down in confusion as she recalls Stefan telling everyone about her having daughters, but she didn't think it was true but seeing the two girls it was. She snapped out of it as she bent down hugging the twin girls, as she could feel the love they had for her.

Caroline had a smile on her face, she turned to Shelia who also had a fond smile on her face. Caroline took a step forward, "Bon, this is Josie and Lizzie."

The two girls let out gasp as they forgot about how their mother told them that they were familiar faces but different from their home. Lizzie bit her lip as an idea popped into her head, "You look prettier in real life than in photos."

"Yea, momma always talks about you," smiled Josie brightly at her. Caroline tilts her head as she smirks internally as they really are her daughters. She heard a slight snort from Shelia as the older woman had an amused expression on her.

Bonnie smiled as the warmth spread in her heart as she glanced at the two little girls in front of her, "Well it's very lovely to meet you."

Sheila watched her granddaughter with fond eyes, "Bonnie come, we don't not much time. Do you have it?"

Bonnie smiled at the girls as she stood up getting the talisman from her bag. It was pretty easy to convince Elena that she needed it in order for her to heal and move on from Stefan, but she just ended up taking it when she was not looking.

Bonnie set her bag down as she took out bunch of candles and getting her grimoire out in the middle. Josie glanced curiously, "Can we help?"

Lizzie nodded as the two girls lean in excitement as Bonnie was surprised, they were witches. Bonnie glanced at Caroline who eyed her and grams, "Is it safe?"

"Completely safe," reassured Shelia to the blonde vampire. Josie and Lizzie squealed as they sat each on Bonnie's side. The twin girls held Bonnie's hand as she began to chant slowly so the twins could follow along. Josie and Lizze nodded at each other as they began to chant with their aunt.

"Phasmatos exitus. Hunc exitus ab auribos."

They finished spell as the three let out a gasp. Sheila helped them up as the twins ran to Caroline, who knelt down, "My littles butterflies, I'm so proud of you both."

"Thank you," muttered the twin girls at the same time as they buried their heads into their mother's blonde locks. Bonnie watches them from the sideline with a fond smile on her face. Shelia took a step as Bonnie wrapped her arms around her.

Shelia mumbled into her, "You are too kind Bonnie. Bringing that boy alive had its consequences. You balanced it out by doing this, but my dear child, just make good decisions, from now on, please."

"I will grams," mumbled Bonnie to her as she held her tighter. Sheila pulled back, "Stuff will get complicated but just focus on what matters to you right now."

She shifted her gaze to Caroline and the twins, "Stay with them, they will need all the help."

Bonnie furrowed her brows but nodded, trusting her word. Shelia smiled brightly, grabbing her hand going to the family of three. Sheila bent down as the twin girls ran to hug her. Shelia caressed their cheeks as she smiled, "I plan to teach you all some fun spells."

Lizzie jumped in excitement, "Like more fire spells?"

"Or invisible spells," lean Josie in excitement. The two Bennett witches glanced at Caroline who shifted in her position, "I taught them as much as I know."

Bonnie laughed at her friend as Sheila nodded at the twins who clapped in excitement. Sheila smiled as she eyed Caroline once again, "Remember the moment you step out an insane amount of power will be felt across the real world and on the other side."

Caroline nodded as she is mentally planning things to prevent and certain people to be cautious of. Bonnie glanced between the two not knowing what they were talking about. Caroline waved her off as she will explain to her, not everything just certain things.

Shelia smiled as they all hugged her as she disappeared in front of her eyes. Lizzie glanced at her mother, "Can we get pancakes?"

Caroline nodded as the two girls exited the burial ground with her and Bonnie following them. Caroline sighs as she takes a step out as the ground begins to tremble a bit and a swirl of breeze hits surrounding the four girls. Josie and Lizzie ran to their mother.

"Mommy."

"Momma."

Caroline kneels on the ground as she brings them into her arms, "Is okay. I'm here, you are safe."

Caroline shifts one of her hands to Bonnie who grabs it as the four huddle on the floor, as the amount of power emerges into the atmosphere. Bonnie yelled through the air, "Caroline we need to get out of here."

Caroline nodded as Bonnie grabbed both girls in her arms as Caroline used her strength to flash them out of the woods, until they arrived on an empty road and they all gasp as they could all feel a burning sensation within them.

Josie buried her head into Bonnie's shoulder, "Are we going to be okay?"

"Yes we are," soothes Bonnie to the little girl. Caroline sighs as Lizzie goes to her arms as she tries to calm her breathing down. Bonnie and Caroline glance at each other as they just let out a breath of relief and look up at the sky.

"What the hell was that, Care?"

"Not a single clue, Bon."

ahh so it might be a bit slow but i hope you all are well enjoying it!!

okay so the next episode is homecoming one which im still trying to figure because caroline will not bring the girls to high school party because that is not safe !!

also should she be senior or drop out ?

but it won't be the next chapter as i have something plan for the next chapter instead

also katherine & elijah won't be a thing, as much as i like them; i will be pairing elijah and gia together because she deserves better!(how? im not sure yet but they will be couple)

also because the writers were always killing poc and lgbtq couples off, like hello what is your problem?

also i am aware the twins are really smart for there age which will be acknowledge later on in the story!!
