Salvation Salesmen
If your god is real,
Why do you stand between us?
The words of a thousand missionaries
Could never fall upon my ears
With as much power as one divine whisper.
If a god exists,
Holding the hand of the world as it precariously spins,
He can speak for himself.
If I come to believe,
It will not be through the greasy promises of
Door-to-door salvation salesmen
Who recite their scripts without true understanding.
Though I do not know the truth yet,
I have looked for it, and know
If there is any truth in this world,
You, with your automatic faith,
Cannot uncover it for me.
If your god is true,
Let me find him myself.
[A/N: Thanks to Sarathiel for the title suggestion… In retrospect it seems so obvious, but you know…
Don't get upset, please! This isn't intended as a personal insult to missionaries--- I'm not trying to offend anyone…
If this makes you angry and you still want to review, calm down a bit before you do so, OK? ^.^]
