Disclaimer: I don't own Newsies. If I did, the world would be a different
place. Pelvic thrust and slash everywhere. *happy sigh.*
I don't know if this plot has already been done but I haven't read it so if it has IM SORRY!
After much thinking I realized that I was a little too blunt and needed to re-edit my story
Shattered (re-edited) By: Bottles
Shattered.
That was the only word that could describe what was going through 11-year old Les Jacobs's head that fateful autumn morning.
Les had quickly left the distribution office in search for his usual selling partners, his brother, Davey, and the Cowboy, Jack Kelly. Les would never admit it to Davey but he was completely obsessed with the Cowboy. He was just so captivating. He was everything that Les wanted to be when he grew up. Strong, Powerful, Assertive, but almost always pleasant--and a good friend. He was in love with Sarah and they were going to be together forever and they were going to be happy.
Les continued to walk down the harsh streets of New York, his thoughts placing Jack higher up on the pedestal, he suddenly heard hushed voices.
"Jack, maybe this isn't such a good idea. He might come looking for us."
'That was Davey,' Les's mind suddenly cried out. He went to catch their attention but before he could speak a word a new voice interrupted them.
"No, Davey, please, I need you. Now."
And with that Les watched Jack Kelly, the strong Cowboy, break into tears. Little did he know what the next few minutes would do for him.
"Dave," said Jack while pulling Davey into a firm embrace, "I just don't think I can do it any more."
"What," asked Davey in an already low and saucy tone.
"The leadership, having the power. I know that all I have are your words. All your ideas. I am a nothing. All I do is take your sentences and make them mine. I just..."
Jack was interrupted by the curly brown haired boy's lips softly grazing his mouth.
"It will be okay," Davey said his husky voice consoling, "I am here now".
Les's mind was frozen. Jack was a fake. The real hero was Davey. But more importantly what were Jack and Davey doing?!? Didn't they know that it was wrong? Didn't they know that boys were not supposed to do that? What about Sarah? Didn't Jack love her? The two boys were involved in their cuddling and calming of each other that they did not see Les's passing taking place. The pedestal that he had placed Jack so high on had not just been chipped, but it was lying in a state of disrepair.
Eleven-year-old Les Jacobs backed away from the alley in a slow, broken way. His childhood dreams and fantasies all destroyed in twenty minutes. He violently threw his wooden sword to the side of the road and his daily newspapers down in a pile. To anyone else he was just an eleven-year old boy walking down the street. He wasn't though. The childish spark in is eyes were gone. His hero-- overthrown. His respect for the former hero and his brother-- diminished. He was no longer a child. The innocence was lost, cast away like a beat-up sword and a stack of newspapers. It didn't matter---Les was....
.... shattered.
Please Review! This is my first fan fiction and I need to know if I should just give up and go back to reading.
