A/N: Don't really got much to say today. My main author's note is in Chapter 1, since this chapter was written sort of as an afterthought. So go there for my denials. Much good they'll do me. And you'll have to excuse the lame method of explaining the names of the True Source. I didn't want to walk around calling them something else entirely to confuse everyone, but I also didn't want to just randomly pull the name from random orifices.
Some believe that nothing is left to chance. Nothing is random, and everything serves a higher order. A pattern is formed with the lives and deaths of men, and no one can see the greater picture until it is woven, and then it is too late. If this is so, it was no accident, and Fate had a hand in the events that lead to the Third Breaking of the World.
The event that started the ball rolling, of course, the TRUE beginning of it all, was the bomb. "Our safety as a nation," they said, "depends on this strike!" And perhaps it was true. Perhaps Iraq DID have weapons of mass destruction. Or maybe it was just a diversion to draw attention from the war on terrorism. Which, in turn, may have just been a diversion for the failing economy. But the cause was irrelevant. What truly matters is the bomb itself.
It was a new bomb, developed in secret. It was supposed to neutralize people, without harming, or destroying anything. It was self guiding, and used sonar to detect the area of highest density for impact. They named it Sonar Activated Intelligent Disaster Neutralizer. Or SAIDiN for short. Little did they know that what they did would affect humanity for Ages to come.
It was Independence Day when they set it off. It was symbolic. A blatant attempt to gain public approval. It was a success, in that regard. What they didn't expect, though, was the monumental side effect.
When the bomb exploded, it rented a hole in the fabric of space. Behind the veil of the universe, a power lay in wait. A power that could be tapped by certain individuals, and used for the good of all. Two scientists, trying to perfect a cure for impotence that would blow Viagra out of the water, accidentally stumbled over the Power. They ran some tests, and soon discovered it was actually TWO powers, a male, and female version. The male half, they dubbed saidin, after the bomb. The female half, they dubbed saidar. No one in the general populace knew about saidin and saidar, but the world would soon discover it would affect the course of history forever.
