~Catch~
"Would you catch me if I fell?"
It was barely a whisper, but it was enought to make Harry sit bolt upright in his bed, arms reaching out blindly in the direction he thought the voice had come from.
Then the haze of sleep retreated and he fell back onto his bed, fingers rubbing at his eyes and coming away wet with tears.
Just a dream, a voice inside his head whispered, it wasn't real. He's gone forever now. You broke your promise. He fell and you didn't catch him. He's dead.
"I didn't catch you." Harry said alout. His voice was pained, gulit-laden. "I'm sorry. It's my fault. I should have been there."
"Harry?" Another voice, groggy with sleep. But it wasn't the voice that he wanted to hear so he ignored it. He'd never hear him again. He was dead. And it was all Harry's fault. He didn't catch him.
"Do you love me? I love you. Promise you'll never leave me. Promise you'll never let me fall."
But he'd fallen and Harry hadn't stopped him. Hadn't been there when he'd needed him the most. He saw stormy grey eyes staring up at him, filled with pain, and he told himself that they were full of accusations as well.
"I guess you didn't really love me all that much."
"But I did love you." he whispered to the night air. "I did."
But it wasn't enough, would never be enough, and the voice that answered back wasn't the voice of his dead lover, wasn't the voice he wanted to hear.
"Harry?" Seamus, the light sleeper. Always the one to wake first when Harry cried out after being chased by the demons that haunted his dreams. "Who are you talking to Harry?"
"Draco." Harry answered softly, seeing no point in hiding the fact.
"You can't talk to me. You killed me."
"Malfoy?" Seamus answered sleepily. "Why are you talking to Malfoy? He's..." Seamus' voice trailed off as realisation hit him. "Oh."
"Go back to sleep Seamus. " Harry was tired, so very tired, but he knew he'd never get to sleep. Not with that voice whispering in his ear.
Seamus mumbled something that Harry took for agreement and soon the only sound in the room was that of the other boys' breathing.
"If I was hurting would you hurt as well? If I left would you come to find me? Will you stay with me forever?"
"Yes." Harry whispered, the single word ringing out eerily in the near-silence of the room. "I'll come to you. And I'll stay. Stay with you always."
"I'm scared of being alone. Afraid the darkness will get me. It sounds stupid but I can feel it caling to me, reaching out it's hands, pleading for me to come to it. And it promises me the most wonderful things."
"I'm coming fo r you. Wait for my Draco. I'll be there." He was determined noe, he knew what he had to do.
He slipped out of his bed, rearranging the blankets so that it looked as if no one had slept there. His feet were cold as he padded across the room to the window, and when he opened it an icy rush of winter air caused him to shiver.
"I'm coming Draco." he whispered to the night, climbing up onto the window sill.
Perched on the edge, looking out over the grounds of Hogwarts, he wondered if maybe it was possible to fly without his broomstick. He was about to find out.
"I love you."
"Love you..."
With one last look behind him at his sleeping friends, he leaned forward and began his final countdown.
"3, 2, 1-"
Forever.
