I found my fairy tale princess.
She was hiding in plain sight.
How I longed to reach out and hold her,
in the middle of the night.
Stolen kisses, and little white lies,
holding hands behind a curtain,
playing in the sand.
Softer lips I've never known.
Nor a more tender kiss.
Merlin, these are the things I miss.
But the night was never ending,
the closet door stood firm.
Our secrets hidden back,
a lesson did we learn.
Times change,
People grow,
Everything changes,
how I don't know.
I grew up; married someone else.
She grew up, married a doctor, too.
Merlin I wanted to write her... but how?
After all these years, how do I say it?
How do the words she so longed to hear,
re-enter when I disappear?
I would have loved to have said it,
would've told it to her, to everyone,
I loved her then.
I love her now.
I shall love her forever.
Never will the words cross my lips,
such love was felt with my fingertips.
