Nate is in the kitchen, pouring himself a drink. He is wearing a pair of dark faded jeans, and a baggy dark blue shirt. It is quiet in the household, and we can see out the window the sky fading, almost navy now. A small lantern lights the porch. Nate goes to sit down when he hears the doorbell, and goes to answer it.

He opens the door with his head down, and when he looks up, his eyes widen slightly, though he tries hard to conceal his suprise and shock. Brenda stands at the door, looking awkward. She stares at Nate, almost trying to study his emotions. Nate holds on to the door, and finally relaxes his posture, and places his free hand on his hip. He takes a deep breath, but before he can exhale he say, "Hey." He forces a smile, and tries to hold back the animosity he has for this woman. Brenda stands with her hands clasped in front of her, looking sheepish.

"Hello" The two stand for a moment in silence, though this does not seem to bother Nate. He eventually motions with his hand if she'd like to come in. She edges forward, and steps inside the home. When she brushed past him, and he felt her near him again, he closed his eyes. Remembering..

Feeling out of place and nervous, she followed Nate to the sitting room.

Nate wondered what she was doing here. His eyes darted around the room, as he stood, rigid. She stayed standing also, not really knowing what to do or where to start. She eventually unclasped her hands, and asked him how he was. He nodded his head, "Good...yourself?"

"I've been at my parents house. Not the best time to be around fucking psychiatrists but there was nowhere else to go." She looks at him, feeling an ache somewhere inside her. "It's been a while."

"I know." Nate used blunt sentance's feeling he had to protect himself. Brenda shifted uncomfortably. and moved a little closer to Nate.

"Look, Nate. I came to say sorry. Even though it should have been said months ago I figured you wanted time alone." Brenda starts talking faster, almost as if trying to convince Nate of how sorry she was. "Not just you I needed time too. I was so wrong. But I have done some thinking and I know things will be different this time."

Nate's eyes widen.

"This time?" He blurts out. Brenda looks confused,

"Well this isn't just it, is it?" Brenda hadn't prepared herself for rejection and frowns. She chuckles as she starts to say, "I mean, one stupid argument, you can't.." Nate finally feels the months of anger build up, and yells,

"YOU BROKE MY HEART." Brenda flinches, and then, silence. Nate is breathing heavily, as Brenda picks up her coat.

"I probably shouldn't have come." She says softly.

Nate sighs, in a pathetic bid to get her to stay, but when she turns around quickly and heads for the door, he follows her. He catches up to her, and takes hold of her arm. When she turns to face him she has tears in her eyes. They share a moment looking into each others eyes. Brenda shakes her head gently, and looks down,

"I'm just sorry Nate." She stares into his eyes, hoping for a response, and when he says nothing, turns to the door and quietly leaves.

Nate continued to stare at the door, hearing her leave down the pathway. Wishing he could of told her how much he had missed her.
