A/N: A big thank you to Raksha who helped me code this! (I couldn't have done it without you, Sister!) If you haven't read her Dark Jewels yet, you should.
Enjoy!
In the darkness of the Abyss something - someone - stirred. Disturbed by the storm of unleashed power far above, it drifted to awareness. Awareness of Self, of power and of purpose.
If anyone could have gone deep enough into the Abyss, they would have seen Her smile.
She rose slowly, listening to the voices of Her children. They called for Her to help them, their wordless pleas echoing through Her mind.
As the dying came tumbling down through the great void She opened Her arms in welcome. Smiling as She held them close to Her, feeling the emptiness of Her heart filling with love once more.
The storm began to still, to draw back into its center. Turning on its creator.
A second or an hour later - She did not know or care - the woman fell. With an urgency She had not felt in millennia, She reached out to hinder the exhausted Witch from crashing through the Black Web.
She cradled the woman to Her as one might hold a child. Brushing strands of golden fur-like hair from the pale face, She smiled as She felt the life still pulsing through Her child. Her special one. Her daughter.
Rising higher She left the Abyss, Witch safely wrapped in Her power.
She felt an overwhelming sadness as She left Her daughter to the Kindred, Her most faithful children.
She had felt her birth, but denied Herself the simple desire to see her grow. Never daring to interfere with the lives of Her daughters, all who had been Witch, She had bitterly learned that it was a gentler pain to live in ignorance. Life, She knew, must take its course, or Her daughters might have become less than what the world needed them to be.
Being in Kaeleer, once again wearing a physical form that could touch and be touched, She felt a brief flash of longing for the life that might have been Hers, had She chosen differently.
Looking up, She met Draca's eyes. With a sorrowful smile, She closed the distance between them and embraced Her eldest daughter. The only child She had carried in Her own body.
As She stepped back, the love still warming Draca's eyes brought tears to her own. She let Her love for all Her children spread across the Realms, a soft summer wind to warm their bodies and lighten their hearts.
With a final smile to Draca, She sank back into the Abyss.
Settling down in the darkness at the bottom of the void, She allowed Her mind to drift. Lingering on the memories of happier times, memories of when She was not alone.
Sighing deeply, She closed Her eyes and slipped into slumber.
She was the Mother, the Night itself.
She would endure.
