The Elvin King

An Elvin maiden tall and fair With twists and curls of golden hair Stepped within the forest green To crown the new born Elvin king

For he will be mighty, tall, and fair The one whom will save all the land But he must keep a promise forever on To not fall in love or it will be his downfall

The Elvin king grew and grew His promise he kept always a new The only things that passed his mind Were thoughts of his kingdom to which was his bind

One day the Elvin king walked his realm And fell upon a beautiful maiden in a silk gown For she was the fairest he had ever seen But she would soon be his misery

The king knew he could not stay long His heart told him he must But his head said it was wrong How could he love such a fair creature? Wouldn't it bring certain disaster?

For days the king thought on and on Of the fair maiden he met by the pond He wished to reach out and touch her fair skin To see if she was real and not just a whim

His realm could tell something was wrong The king never stayed in his room for long He must be ill they thought He might need the healers to ease his thoughts

So one night a band of Elvin men Came to the king's chamber to heal him When they opened the door and stepped inside They saw the king laid across his bed He looked rather peaceful as if asleep But the elves knew that he was not asleep

The king's last thought was of the maiden fair The one with the long golden hair He knew he never should have stayed long He knew she would be his downfall

This is the tale of the Elvin king Whom died of his broken dreams His only wish was to be with the maiden fair But if only his heart could have led him there.
