But What If Light Hurts My Eyes?
Summary: A little peek inside Severus Snape's mind when he decided to turn to the light side
A/N: I do not intend to continue this any further, but I might, if you asked me to.
Disclaimer: I do not own Severus Snape, how fortunate for him, nor do I own anything else from the world that is the Harry Potter books.

Here I am again, kneeling before Voldemort. I have stopped referring to him as 'Lord' and 'My Master' in my mind, for to me, he is no lord, nor is he my master. He is just a nightmare. One so horrible you wake up breathing heavily, and realize you were not dreaming. This will be the last night I'm in his power. Tomorrow, I will go to Hogwarts. True, I fear Voldemort, but not like neutral or good wizarding world does, nor the way Death Eaters do. I fear him, not what he can do to me like everyone else. That is why I do not flinch at the mention of his name. I am determined to destroy him, but I cannot do it all by myself. That is why I will go to Dumbledore, for help. Voldemort calls forth his most trusted Death Eaters. Lucius, Avery, Nott, Rosier and me. Little does he know that there are two traitors in his trusted ones. Lucius and I both are going to betray him. Lucius does not want anything bad to befall on his son, and I can't blame him. One reason I never married was that I didn't want anyone I loved to suffer because of me. Not to mention that with my looks the dating pool isn't exactly enormous. I am not afraid of death, I crave for excitement. By that, one might think I'm a bloody Gryffindor. Enjoy these following days, Voldemort, for the just might be the last ones for you. I swear I will not rest before either one of us is dead. We are dismissed. Ah, there is Lucius. He's smiling again. He will not come with me to Hogwarts. He says he and Dumbledore are not in good terms with each other, that he will help me every way possible, and Dumbledore too, but that the Headmaster of Hogwarts is to not know. He says that he will pretend to have been under Imperius when Voldemort meets his downfall. I reckon that it will probably be the best for his family name. Mine, on the other hand. It is not worth much. My bloodline might have been one of the richest families in England for centuries, but not the most valued ones. I have nothing to lose. We reach Hogwarts and Lucius and I shake hands. It is the farewell for each other. He turns to leave.
"Lucius", I call after him, almost hoping he won't hear, but he does and he turns around and looks to me.
"Yes, Severus?" he replies as politely as the Malfoy he is.
"What if the light hurts my eyes?" I ask. The thought has finally got through my thick skull.
"Then don't turn me in to Voldemort, and I won't turn you in if it hurts mine", he replies and leaves.
And I am left alone. If I take one more step, there will be no turning back.
"Don't worry, Lucius. I will hide in the dungeons if daylight is too strong for me."
I feel his eyes prying on my back, but I do not look back.
