Aete Nabiki
-----------
On a bet, Nabiki stood in front of all of their friends and family, all of which she'd ripped off before. It seemed odd that she decided to do this, even if she wasn't getting paid. Still, Nabiki Tendou is no coward, and she always keeps her word.
One of her friends from school gave Ranma a CD, which he quickly put in a CD player. It searched for the song slowly, Nabiki still thinking twice about this.
With the CD lyric paper and a microphone in her hands, the music started. She quickly began to sing along, catching on quickly.
"I see the fancy life you've been chasing,
That's a pretty car you've been racing.
You mention your vacations, your beach at Bali.
Well good for you,
But that doesn't matter much to me
Cause it's only money."
Already people were beginning to giggle and joke. Nabiki rather liked the spotlight, but this just didn't feel natural.
"Before this you were funny and charming,
What's been going on is alarming.
Cause now you only value the thing that you pay for.
Well get a clue,
It's money, no more.
Yes it's money, no more
Less important than a little smile."
Most everyone burst out.
"No, I can't be around your money no more,
No, no more.
Do you remember
How simple it all used to be
For you and for me
We were happy
Who cares what we had or had not
You came up in the world and forgot."
It was then she noticed Kuno. He had a look of pity, shame, and sympathy for her.
"You called me from the phone in your pocket
To say you're moving up like a rocket.
Whatever is in fashion is what you pine for.
You know you do,
It's money, no more."
Even Ranma seemed to be thinking, and Nabiki was pleased by the thought that Ryouga had managed to show up without getting lost. But her attention quickly went back to Kuno.
"Yes it's money, no more,
Less important than a tender word.
No, I can't be around your money no more,
No, no more."
He wasn't spouting poetry to Akane, or asking Ranma out on a date.
"Do you remember
The pizza we'd eat in the park?"
Kuno laughed lightly. But he wasn't making fun of her, or cracking a joke. He was just remembering.
"We'd walk until dark
By the river,
And we never hurried our pace.
Who cares if we were going someplace?"
And only now did she realize that there was a reason she was only paying attention to Kuno. She didn't care about anyone else.
"Oh I remember
The man I imagined you were,
The one I prefer.
Your compassion
For people you grew to ignore...
This world of your's is money, no more"
The song drew to a close. She made it, no big problem. Maybe it wasn't so strange after all. With all the dignity she could muster, Nabiki replaced the microphone on the stand and stepped down off the stage, silently rejoining the crowd.
After giving the CD's booklet to Ranma she walked up to Kuno. "Don't act so serious, Kuno-Baby." She then promptly pressed her lips firmly against his, causing a commotion in a room of the Tendou dojo.
