Strider was upset. No he was more than upset, he was furious. First one of the Hobbits just had to go and blow the ring-bearer's cover, then the ring- bearer himself went and put the ring on in the middle of a busy tavern. It was almost as if they wanted the Ring-wraiths to find them.

As Strider went to go sit down to relax, the door opened to the Prancing Pony. Now for a busy tavern that is normal, except for the fact that the person who walked in looked like a ranger, or to be more precise a female ranger. Needless to say it was highly unusual.

Strider watched as she and Butterbur talked for awhile, with Butterbur nodding his head in Striders direction. After a bit of what looked like debating, Butterbur lead her over to his table.

"Strider," Butterbur started. "This is Shadow. Gandalf has asked for her to help you and the Hobbits."

"It's a pleasure to meet you Shadow," Strider said.

"The pleasures mine. Gandalf has told me much about you."

"Well I'd better go, you know how it is, too many customers," Butterbur laughed as another traveler entered the tavern.

"Thank you Butterbur," Shadow stated as he walked back to the counter.

"Well," Strider said. "You had best rest. We'll have a busy day tomorrow."

"That's to be sure." Shadow said nonchalantly. ~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~++~ ++

Later that night, the hobbits and Shadow woke up to the most unearthly sound you could imagine. Strider was looking out the window to make sure that the Ring-wraiths didn't come in. When he turned around, he was surprised to see Shadow looking like she was going to be sick. All of the Hobbits were around her, trying to be brave, yet still trembling and scared out of fright of the blacked clocked things that were screeching because of the escape of their pray.

Then as soon as it began the screeching stopped, and the Ring-wraiths could be heard mounting up and ridding off. Strider returned to the window to make sure that they were gone, and began to contemplate how to get the ring to where it was safe, if even for only a little bit.

As the five other people began to sleep, his thoughts turned to the girl that was to be traveling with them. When the Ring-wraiths showed up, she had shown no fear, rather if you looked past the utter disgust on her face, you could see a look of pure hatred more than any thing else.

His last few thoughts before he drifted off to dreamland were that she acted kind of like an elf, if it weren't for her midnight black hair, and amber-green eyes, he would almost swear it. Also her reaction was highly unusual. It made him wonder what had happened to her in the past.

Well, this is the redone version of the first chapter, and, well.it's still a little short. This sucks. Any way, please review and maybe it will help me get through this evil setting-up-of-the-story part, and then I will be able to get to the good stuff!!

Thx again!!
