Captains Personal Log

The Enterprise has remained in orbit around Katava 5 for three days, as I pay my respects to the grieving family of my boyhood friend Phillip Ariman. Ambassador Ariman and his wife Dixie were killed in a shuttlecraft accident leaving behind a son, Tristan. These deaths have affected me more than I would have expected. I suppose I have never fully recovered from the deaths of my brother and nephew.

Having served as Ambassador to Katava 5 for eleven years, it was Phillip and Dixie's request to be laid to rest on Katava 5 if they were still in service on the planet. Having no family other than there eight year old son, the funeral was attended by members of the Federation Council, friends, the Katavan Royal Family and of course, Tristan.

As I prepare to return to the Enterprise, I have asked Commander Riker, Doctor Crusher, and Counselor Troi to be in the transporter room. Commander Riker will handle the transport controls.

***************

Commander Will Riker was dismissing the Transporter Technician as Doctor Beverly Crusher and Counselor Deanna Troi entered the transporter room. After the technician exited the room and the doors closed, Will was the first to speak.

"Does anyone have any idea what's going on?" he asked.

"I was hoping you had a answer to that question." Beverly replied.

"He's been checking in to see what the ship status is, but that's all."

"I sense Captain Picard is stressed about something. What it is I don't know, but, I guess we will find out." Deanna added, before she was asked.

"Picard to Commander Riker", the Captains voice interrupted their conversation.

Tapping his communicator pin, "Yes, Captain?" he asked.

"Two to beam up, if things are as I requested." Picard responded.

"They are sir. Did you say two?"

"Yes Will, two", Picard answered.

"Energizing", was Riker's only reply as he began activating the transporter.

All three officers watched as two sparkly shapes appeared on the transporter pad. As the transporter process completed, a completely reconstructed Captain Jean-Luc Picard and a young blonde, almost white, haired boy stood on the pad. As Captain Picard stepped off the transporter, his three senior officers moved forward.

"Welcome aboard." Riker said holding out his hand.

"It's good to be back, Number 1", Picard replied shaking Riker's hand.

"Captain," Troi interrupted." Are you feeling well? You seem to be extremely stressed."

"Tired." Picard answered her, "just tired."

"Who's your little friend", Beverly asked moving towards the transporter pad.

The boy was dressed in the Mourning wear of a young Katavan Prince. Black knee length boots overlapped the lower portion of black trousers. Next came a Black jacket made out of leather like material. On the ends of the short upturned jacket collar was the Insignia of the Katavan Royal family embroidered in gold thread. A black circlet was on his forehead, disappearing beneath his blonde hair. Black eye shadow accented his azure blue eyes. When Beverly recognized the insignia, she stopped.

"I'm sorry your highness". She said. " I didn't realize.."

"No, Beverly", Picard interrupted as he moved towards the boy and Beverly. "It's not what you think. This is my son, Tristan."
