Dark Wonderland
by: Lani Lenore
The cat smiles
And the once bright flowers die.
The trees all wither away.
Darkness comes.
5 Life becomes a bloody water cloud
And nothing is sharper than the blade.
She stands alone,
One warrior with brooding countenance,
Set pale against the dying backdrop.
10 Standing fearlessly alone
Looking over the dark stage she created herself,
Unafraid of the world she has spawned.
The rabbit joins her,
To guide her way past peril and self defeat.
15 Time's no friend, but a worthy foe.
When teacups rattle and caterpillars blow rings
And all she once knew
Is lost to the rule of the one who overshadows her.
The tea is cold.
20 The Hatter sighs,
And blows sugar lumps into the wind.
The sleepy mouse yawns
As the Hare of March laughs
And all becomes quiet at table.
25 Tarts! Tarts!
Who stole the queen's tarts?
Guilty will be your forced plea.
Cut the deck and slice away to claim your prize and run.
All you once loved chases you away and leaves you with nothing –
30 Alone as you once had been before.
The cat smiles again –
Smiles at her –
Tail twitching in mad glee
As the pendulum swings under a mocking face
35 And time ticks on as once it had,
And the Insane becomes Reality.
*This was just something I thought I'd try. I don't do poetry very often and I was studying it in college. Well, let me know what you think. I may improve upon this in the future.*
