Summary: Buffy's thinking about Angel

Story:

Buffy sat quietly on her steps, thinking. Well, okay, she could admit to herself she was kind of waiting to see if Spike came. But she was thinking, too.

Her brain was giving her a slide show of her life: First shot, baby Dawn. Next Buffy skating in a Dorothy Hamill costume. Then, at Hemery cheerleading. Fourth, Merrik. Fifth, Pike. Then, Giles. Seventh, Willow and Xander. Next Angel. Ninth Kendra. Then Angelus. Then Faith. Angel again. Riley. Her mom's coffin. Angel. Glory. Buffy jumping into the portal for Dawn. Digging herself out of the coffin. Giles leaving. Spike. But always Angel.

Buffy had lost so much since she was called. But she'd also gained so much. True, she'd lost Merrik, but she never would have met him if she wasn't the Slayer. She and Pike never would have ended up together, either. Although that could have gone either way.

She'd lost her Mom, and Angel. But she wouldn't have gotten so close to her mom. She wouldn't have met Angel. She wouldn't have been given Dawn.

Buffy couldn't imagine herself without Angel. Without Dawn. No matter how far off those two drifted from her, they would be two parts of a whole. Her whole.

Buffy smiled wistfully remembering how Angel had once questioned her. 'You still my girl?'

"Always," Buffy whispered into the night. Then she stood and went inside, to dream of him.
