Fallen Moon

Renie woke one morning beside Neko. He was still wearing his ancient robes, but his sword had been stuck into the ground. As Renie sat up on the small bed, blurred memories of the night before rushed through her mind. She heard a soft, strange sound coming from Neko. She listened more closely. and found he was purring! Renie covered her mouth to keep from giggling so loud she'd wake him up. She began to pet his ears. She giggled again. He's so cute when he's asleep. Like a real kitten. She stopped a few minutes later. She knew he hated it when she treated him like an ordinary cat, but it was so much fun! "Renie?" Neko asked as he woke up. She was standing at the table, making breakfast. She looked over at him and smiled. Oh, by the seven gods, Neko thought. She has the most beautiful smile. He sat on the bed for a while. Renie looked at him. "What are you thinking about?" she asked him. He scratched his cat ears. "Well, I was remembering the first time you ever smiled at me," he whispered, hugging her. "So, who were we fighting last night?" Renie asked. Neko stood and grabbed a plate. "Lord Shiro and Hanari," he answered slowly. Renie nodded, understanding why her memory of the fight was so hazy. Renie and Neko had been fighting demons and demons lords and ladies for years. They had been paired together by the Council. Renie had just appeared one day. She had been a small girl at the time, her sleek pink hair in long odangos, and her red eyes bright and soft. She had shown the Council how powerful and important she was. They had paired her with Neko, a rude and dangerous demon who was half cat-demon and half bird-demon. She had taught him how to behave, how to be nice. The Council knew she would. Now, Renie was staring out the window of their small house. She turned to Neko. "Neko, have I ever told you about my past? About who my parents were, who I used to be?" she asked. He shook his head. "Well, you know of the Revolution, don't you?" she asked him. He nodded. "Well, both of my parents died during the Revolution. Their deaths were the cause of the end of it." "My mother was Neo-Queen Serenity of the Crystal Millenium, and my father was King Endymion of Earth. I was Princess Renie, heir to the universal throne. Then, the Revolutionaries ruined everything.
