Serentity

Out on the rim, life was hard for the settlers
Learning to deal with the Alliance think they's the betters
Of this great 'verse. One man and his ragtag team stands
Ready to take the coin from the rich and place it in the hands
Of thems that need it. Dealing with a past that haunts his deep
Dreams in the night, he set himself up with a ship to keep
Him flying in the black. At his side, is the most loyal woman
He'll never be married to. She fought with him, tryin' to free the land
From the Alliance that would never rest. Serenity was lost that day,
But the good Captain discovered Serenity of another kind, in another way
And he flew into the black to carve a new life for himself. Got his ship
A pilot, who married the first mate. Even got a hired gun to help keep a grip
On the stickier situations. Had a mechanic, too. Weren't much good, though,
'cause a little farmgirl found the problem on her back, while he was having a go
At a little fun. Captain took on a bona fide companion to act as ambassador
To all those little planets that never looked at the crew before.

Full crew now, the captain took on passengers at Eavesdown
Docks, after having a run in with the local thug in the town
On Persephone. A doctor, a sociopath, and a shepard to come
Aboard and live. Nine people living together, never knowing where they're from
Or what they've done. Nine for the secrets, eight for the crime,
Seven on the run, six for a fight, five for the count, four for the time,
Three for the ship, two for the war, and the last? He stood alone
On a ravaged field, and called the sky his home.
