DEFAULT CHAPTER
Brenna did not say a word as she passed close to the group of kids from her school. As she walked by they turned regarded her cautiously, as if she was some wild animal about to pounce.
"Hey Brenna! Found yourself a daddy yet?" called Adam, the resident 'tough guy'.
Brenna stopped walking and turned to face him, making sure to keep her face emotionless.
"Why would it matter to you, Adam?" she asked, then, dropping her voice eerily low, "Don't you already have a boyfriend? Or did you get bored of him already? Bastard." Having shut him up with the taunts toward both him and his bimbo girlfriend, Brenna flipped him and his groupies off and turned, walking home.
It was a sunny spring day, and Brenna would normally have lingered in the open air, enjoying nature, but today she walked swiftly and purposely. Although she tried not to show it, Adam's comment had cut Brenna deeply. A single tear slipped down her cheek. It was true, she never had known her father. He had just up and left one day when she was still a baby. Because she was different from other people, almost everyone either abused her, or felt sorry for her. Strange as it might seem, Brenna preferred being made fun of. She didn't want to be pitied. By anyone. But if people thought it had ruined her chance at a happy life, she wondered, what would they think of her mother? She was still madly in love with her husband. Brenna had grown up with her mother trying to do everything for her to make up for the fact that her dad wasn't there. But her mother was broken, and Brenna knew it. She had taken to wearing earplugs at night to block out the poor woman's sobs. Broken. Shattered. ************************************************************************** So? Watcha think? Ok, no REAL humour yet, but just you wait! Reviews, people reviews. Pwease review? Flames? Bring it ON! I've got veggie dogs and marshmallows! ^_^
