A/N: I don't own any of the characters mentioned. I do not own the story line of Fushigi Yuugi. I was told to post this on FF.net cause it was prettiful. Anyway, enjoy.

Before I Leave

My body lies twisted and bloodied on the ground;

I can hear their voices above me.

Congratulating one another on their recent victory;

Congratulating my demise.

Oh, my sweet shogun, how I wish I could see your icy blue eyes again!

If only I could die more honorably;

In your arms.

Strange, despite how much has happened to me,

The abuse, the rape, the pain,

It would seem that I would welcome death with open arms.

If I had never met you, my blonde angel,

I would think that way as I lose feeling in my body.

But fate decided to have it another way.

Odd how fate loves toying with me.

It seems as if I will never see you again.

Never will I watch the wind play with your golden locks.

Oh how I wish I could run my fingers through it now.

Just to be near you would honor my wish enough.

Never again will I see your emotionless stare,

Even now I can feel a slight shiver through me.

Nakago, my love, how I've wished I could tell you.

But now it seems I'll have to wait,

Until our paths cross in another life.

I will soon join Seiryu...

What's this?

My cheeks are wet...am I crying?

So unfamiliar, the feeling,

I haven't cried since I was a boy.

I hear surprised gasps and murmurs coming from those of Suzaku.

I guess they suspected me to smirk boldly at my death.

What a lovely little thing for me to leave them with.

I can feel the shroud of death being pulled over me.

Nakago, I wish I could have been graced by a smile, but your stern lips were good enough.

With my final breath I shall say the words I've longed to speak in front of you.

The words that I've longed for you to hear.

In one way or another I've made sure to get them to you.

It's my turn to become your angel and watch over you beside Seiryu.

Nakago, my love, my dear shogun, my friend,

Aishiteru, I love you, for now...forever...

With a silent tear, Seiryu claimed Tomo. Later that day an envelope was found on the shogun's nightstand. The blonde opened it and read:

Nakago-

As I worked towards the destruction of Suzaku no Miko, I realized I would never make it back to you. If you're reading this letter, my prediction was correct. I'm watching over you, along with Seiryu. In this case now, I'm afraid, I have something to tell you. Something I was too weak and too afraid to say while I was alive. My beautiful shogun, aishiteru. I will always and forever love you.

Watching Over You Always,

Tomo

With the last line of Tomo's perfect calligraphy read, Nakago gave in to his emotions for once, and let go of a shimmering silver tear...the malicious shogun of Kuto had a heart after all. And Seiryu took it along with Tomo's final words: Aishiteru....

The Moral: If you have something to say to someone say it now; you may never get the chance again.
