A/N: Yes, I know the game is out, and yes I know that the characters will be. well out of character. To be totally honest, I couldn't care less.

Kyo groaned loudly staring out the window. Japan was experiencing a freak heat wave, and unfortunately for him, his city of Kyoto was right in the middle of it. Looking around the classroom he felt a little comfort seeing that his smarmy bastard of a teacher was just as uncomfortable as him. Not soon enough four o'clock rolled around and the bell rang.
Yawning loudly the 15-year-old boy packed away his various things into his messenger bag, and pulled it up onto his shoulder. Stepping out into the heat of the afternoon sun, he immediately cursed the gods for giving him black hair, for it felt like somebody had just pored boiling water on his head.
"Hey Kyo! Kyo wait up!" it yelled. Turning around Kyo could see an athletic 16-year-old running up to him from behind. He was sweating profusely and out of breath. Kyo grinned widely seeing this. "Hey Yakusho, what's up?" he asked the other 15-year-old.
"This," he said flipping Kyo the middle finger. "I told you to wait for me! Why the hell did you leave!?"
"Eh? I don't recall. wait, never mind. Well what's done is done." he said laughing slightly. "We should probably get inside before we burn to a crisp. Its so frickin' hot!"
"Yeah yeah," he muttered still irritated that his best friend had forgotten him.
Moving into a "Super 7-11" the two of them headed towards the chilled drink section. The two of them being caffeine addicts, immediately went for the loaded stuff: Bawls. After deciding on their drinks they looked around trying to find the chips. Eventually they reached the game section (yes 7- 11s in Japan sell video games, I'm envious). In the center there was a large display showing off copies of 'The World'. "Hmm, is this game any good?" Kyo asked picking up a copy. With this, Yakusho's jaw dropped. "Come on! Don't tell me you don't know what 'The World' is!" "Well I don't" Kyo muttered in response. "I mean, is it really that great of a game?" "It's only the most successful game out there, I've heard good things about it." Yakusho stated matter-of-factly. "Well it's cheap. might as well pick it up." He said. "Yeah I probably will to." After they left 7-11 they parted ways heading for their houses on the outskirts of town. Reaching his house Kyo ran upstairs and turned the air conditioning on full blast. Oh how good it felt to have cold air blowing on his face. On the floor, his copy of 'The World' lay forgotten. It would stay forgotten for an entire year.
