A/N: This takes place at the same time as Chapter 4 and Chapter 6
Beth Whitman stood on her old balcony staring at the stars. "Beth, are you alright?"

She turned towards the house where her husband was standing. "I don't know."

"It's the Czechs right?" Al said knowingly as he walked over to her.

"Yes. Things are going to change again," She said turning back towards the stars.

"Yeah," Al said pulling her close.

"How much do we tell them?" Beth asked as they both stood facing the stars.

"I don't know. Do you think Max deserves to know?"

"He is Juan's father. But, I really don't know. On the other hand, Juan deserves the chance to know his heritage."

"No!"

Beth and All both turned back towards the house to see their son. "Juan?" Beth asked.

"No mom, I have a dad. I don't need Max. And I know my heritage. All that is important to me is that we stay together. My home is here, and my family is here. That's enough," Juan said walking towards them.

"Are you sure? There are some things we can't tell you. Some things we don't know. And we will never know," Al said.

"More than that, we've done the best we can with your powers. Maybe they can help you more," Beth said placing her hand on his shoulder.

"Mom," Juan said taking he hand, "You did enough. We are fine. You did ok," He finished and gave her a hug.

"Thanks, I needed that," Beth said fighting tears.

"I know," Juan said.

"Ok, we won't tell Max. We'll leave it up to you," Al said.

"Ok, night mom, night dad," Juan said returning to the house.

"Well, that takes care of one problem," Al said.

"One? What other problem is there?" Beth said sitting down on the lawn chair.

"Max," Al said sitting down next to her.

"What about him?"

"We both know he broke your heart. And at times I wonder if he broke your soul too," Al said.

"You know that it is impossible to break your soul."

"Yeah, but if you had seen yourself..." Al said bitterly. "You would believe that. It's just... Oh hell," Al said turning and taking Beth's hand, "If you want to go back to him, I won't stand in your way,"

Beth stared at him for a minute before smacking him over the head. "Alexander Charles Whitman don't you ever talk like that again!"

"But Beth..."

"No buts, don't you realize that I can't live without you? Max can never replace you. The Max I loved is a high school memory. He doesn't even exist anymore. The man I love is you. I've loved you for years. We have something I wouldn't give up for the world. You are my soul mate. No one else. Together, no one can hurt us. I would never leave you for Max or anyone else for that matter. Don't you know that?"

"I know, I just wanted to give you the chance. Just like I know you would do the same for me," Al said then placed his finger on Beth's lips when she started to talk. "I just choose to not repeat your whole speech," Al finished then he softly kissed her. "Come on, we better get some sleep," And the two of them went back in the house.
