The Legend of Zelda The Quest of Vengeance

Trudging through the knee-high packed snow, he was exhausted. Must keep moving. moving. moving. Almost there. almost...th. th.ere. He was loosing his visibility. The wound that was dug into his abdomen was bleeding freely. The blood-soaked bandage fell off. He was getting dizzy. Now nausea was creeping into his stomach. The man collapsed into the deep snow. In the distance, slowly coming closer, was the dark shape, silhouetted against the shadow- covered trees. coming to finish what it started. He heard his mind scold him, to tell him that his hunting partner will be here and rescue him and take him back to Estawood. Those thoughts ended without hope. The black shape was closer. Almost 10 feet away. He tried to move his hand toward his sword. almost got it. seven feet away. has a grip. slowly pulling.pulling.five feet away. The sword is unsheathed. Three feet away. He has the sword at his own throat. Two feet. must slice.must.must. He pulled the sword back to slice his own neck. One foot away. He had to put all his strength into this act of courage. A great shadow of darkness fell upon him. The sword had made a small incision into the flesh on the man's neck. The dark shape standing over him was wearing black robes. The hood over the thing's head cast its face into shadow. Only two bright red eyes shone from inside the hood. In one swift motion, a strong, clawlike limb swiped the sword from the man's hand across the snow.

Lying on the ground, unable to move, the man, with his free arm, managed to crawl away from the creature. He only made it a few inches when the creature grabbed him by the throat, picked him up with immense power. The man could feel his bones crack. He let out a long, painful, terrifying scream. His spine broke. The creature dropped him on the scarlet snow. Slowly, with its sharp nail, it slit open the body's chest, and started feasting on his heart.
