Author's notes: This is given to D-Scyther as his birthday gift. If you ask me why I wasn't appearing during the sem break, (I've got classes today) I was on different places in just one week. Been to my grandma, vacation on some places and cleaning in our province.
I have wondered this thought
Replaying this train of subjects
in the deepest part of my head
some things I never knew
or even people, just like you.
In the heavy blizzards of winter
I never see why tears don't freeze
like the river beside our home
Why did my mother's touch
could warm thousands of cold intentions?
Why every little snowflakes
can make a big patch of a white blanket?
Why shadows of people with good hearts
can make snow angels in spite of frost?
Why does the snowman smiles at me
even though at the blow of the cruel breeze?
Fantasies like plum fairies to Santa Clauses
make children's eyes sparkle and shine
The scene looks peaceful...
serenely coming over tranquility
Heavy downpour of this little wonders of ice
can be no big deal to me.
But, as far as I can see
I feel the rays of a star
in the far east...
A cry in spite of the snow.
I know Christmas is coming
yet, tell me, why do I feel warm?

I was chattering to Yukino-chan about the upcoming Christmas bash to be celebrated in my home. While our feet were busy on the pavement, I was looking at her with much interest. Again, she was staring at the store displays as if it was her first time to encounter such things. She fixed her stare, probably half interested with my stories while thinking some thoughts. It didn't matter though, since I have that same odd expression when Okaasan brought me here to take a look.
Sometimes, I thought of Yukino-chan as someone who lived a lonely life. You see...how can I explain this...umm...she has this very sad eyes, take a good look. Yup, you can feel the sadness in her. I believed that Yukino and her sorrow were one. That never suits me and I am sure she don't have to be suited too, with that kind of eyes. I want to feel her laughter or smile with her. Just to make me believe that she is alive.
Ah, here it is!
"Yukino-chan!" Gomen, you are probably in the middle of some deep thinking but I've got to try! She silently glanced at me, knowing that I just want to attract her full attention.
"Come on!" I tried not to sound excited, maybe a little huff will do. "I have found it." I pulled her pale arm towards the shop. I nearly giggled when she had this
surprised face. Probably because I jerked too hard or didn't know what surprise I'll give to her. I gave a hard push on the glass door, its metal chimes singing unknown melodies in the sudden movement. The slow radiating light of the lamp in the walls gave the atmosphere a friendly feeling.
Mistletoes and Hollies hanged freely and the slight mist of the cold air grazed the glass.
A mahogany-haired woman smiled at us. Really, Kira-san has a very homely look with her face so happy! She motioned us towards the corner which was filled with colorful glass jars. "Ah, Saemi-chan. You can get all you want but be sure to give some to others, ok?" her voice was soothing as her red frilly skirt dissapered in the sliding doors behind the counter.
"Yukino-chan!" I quickly grabbed a cream-colored jar from the shelves. With a twist in the tightened cover, I took out a pretty snow angel out of the container. Glittery and with its golden wings, glazed with melted sugars and caramel for her halo, This is a perfect gift for her! With a gushing shove into her hands, I announced with a determined voice. "That's yours!!"
Instead of the joyful facade that I have been expecting, she just blinked calmly at the precious bundle she held just right now. I think she was curious, for she take a slow, calculating gestures to behold the candy within seconds.
"Why?" came a whisper. Her eyes searching.
"Well..." I squirmed under her observing gaze. "It's Christmas eve, you know. You ought to
receive something. Because you are my friend and I have to. I don't know if you'll like it....I..If you want a.a.nother..."I stammered. "I can quickly replace it her. That's why I have to take you here...well?"I repeated with
half-hopeful and half-dreadful anticipation. "You can eat it." I added, to tell her what to do with it.
Carefully, she raised the piece to her small lips.
"Go on."
Nipping a little to the white crust in the bottom of the angel's dress, She stared at it as if it was a new discovery in the century. Here comes some plead of help to the sugar plums for her
tongue.
"Arigatou." Her words was accompanied by a warm, pliant smile.
" Yukatta!!!" I jumped with my arms waving in the air. Just this moment, we can be ordinary kids. Not some people that differ in time, mind and heart. We can be just friends.
Forget about the pain she surely shows deeply in everything she speaks.
"Let's eat the big lollipops over the next green one! I've got tons of yen from oniichan!"
A spring-like laughter filled in the winter's silent night.
