Elese rose to the early morning light for her schooling. She dressed,
boarded the bus and unpacked her backpack. It seemed to be a normal day.
A day like all the other days, but eventually fate would prove her wrong.
That day she did all the tasks that had become perfunctory to her.
She walked into sixth period. It was her favorite class, history. She
entered the room to have the joyous teacher greeted her with a pleasant
smile and a cheerful hello. She returned the kindness and took her seat.
The remaining members of the class filed in the teacher greeted them in the
same manor as she did Elese. After the bell rang and everyone was seated
the teacher, Ms. Paulamime, began her lessons.
She taught of World War II. Elese sat and listened attentively. All
of a sudden the door was flung open. A boy they all knew as "Big Joe, was
standing in the doorway. Big Joe was held back two years in a row. Ms.
Paulamime said some-what shocked "Joseph Pulpen, I know you know better
than to open my door without knocking."
Then Joe pulled out a pocket knife! Then in a low rough voice he
said "Everyone in the corner." The children and Ms. Paulamime moved
quickly into the corner.
Ms. Paulamime stood in front of the students trying to gain control
over the situation. Elese the then jumped out of the crowd of students in
the corner and said with an attitude "What in the name of Indiana Jones do
you think you're trying to pull here?"
"Elese stay back!" snapped Ms. Paulamime.
"You should listen to your teacher Elese," wined Big Joe.
"No you think you can just waltz right in here and hold our class at
knife point!" snapped Elese.
Elese kicked her shoes and socks off never taking her eyes off him.
"Well watacha gonna do about it hmmmm?" teased Big Joe.
Then he pulled his knife back with the intent of stabbing Elese when
she lifted her foot and with great balance thrust her foot toward his
wrist. Her foot hit his wrist with so much force that he dropped the
knife. At that instant she hollered at the rest of the class and Ms.
Paulamime to exit. As she fallowed her class out the door. Big Joe threw
the knife and hit Elese in the back. She screamed in anguish and fell to
the floor. Big Joe laughed and ran. Ms. Paulamime her Else's scream and
rushed back to help her. Ms. Palulamime lifted her up with the help of
another student they quickly carried her out to the arriving ambulance.
Then as they were just about to shut the doors Elese said "Ms.
Paluamime, be yourself, to me that is your most admireable quality."
