I confess! It's J. K.'s, all of it! I'm so sorry.... *is dragged away screaming*

Author's Note
Yay! Another Sorting Hat Song I wrote, this time during P.E. (blecgh!) class.

********

When Earth was little trod upon
And savage beasts roamed free
There was a dream, a vision such
Perceived by wizards three.
They wish to keep the blood alive
To pass on wizard-kind
And talent, yes, but most of all
Great knowledge for the mind.
But they could not do this alone,
They made their threesome four
Allowing another to join their ranks
So it says in myths and lore
Gryffindor and Ravenclaw
And Hufflepuff agreed
That wizard Salazar Slytherin
Had powers they did need.
They worked together, four as one
And built with careful hand
A towering structure, made from stone
In which today you stand.
In selecting worthy pupils
For this castle by the lake
The stumbled on a dilemma
Which qualities should they take?
For Gryffindor prized, above all else,
Courage and bravery
But Rowena Ravenclaw declined
She loved knowledge, so you see.
Hufflepuff simply chose
The ones that tried their best
Though Slytherin wanted stealthy minds
To rise above the rest.
To preserve and keep the peace intact
The founders did divide
They each developed their own house
Where their pick might reside.
But how was this feat to be done?
For surely one might be
Able to, in pupils wrong,
See traits mistakenly
They needed an impartial judge
One all-seeing and smart
Enough to weigh the knowledge or
The courage in each heart.
After deliberation much
Their minds were cast to me
When I sat upon the head
Their character I'd see
After many charms and spells alike
Knowledge was instilled
The school that once had been a dream
That day became quite real.
So have a try! Just take a breath
And slip me o'er your ears
Then I shall sort out all your thoughts
Each hope and every fear
I'll let these things weigh on my mind
And then I'll say with glee
The name of that quite privileged house
In which each one shall be!
