The Quest

"It's got to be here somewhere. I know it is." Ki mumbled. He was searching the Zion mainframe from his small house there. He was spending his hard earned and rare downtime working. He had practically begged Siris, his caption for the access codes. He wasn't about to waste this chance. He heard a small creak from the entrance of the room, but he didn't turn. He heard Siris voice.
"Rest Ki. We may have to leave soon." He said, looking over Ki's shoulder as he ran database searches. "What are you looking for?" He asked. Ki wheeled around in his chair. Siris' face was emotionless, and it seemed to be darker in the shadowy room.
"Weakness. Everything has weaknesses. And how do you find those weaknesses? By learning everything you can about the enemy. I am doing just that, I am going back to the beginning. The first machines served their masters faithfully. I am going to find who created the first machine. Maybe.... Yea." He broke his sentence off mid thought and began frantically typing. Siris looked closer at the young man. "International Patent Office. Patent # 1010111001, the first known machine patent. Patented by Dr. Michael Andersen." Ki read off the screen. His dark green eyes lit up as his fingers raced across the keyboard. He frowned as he read off the screen farther. "No death certificate. What if? Oh God. That's it. "
"What, what is wrong?" Siris asked.
"Call the crew together, we need to see the Oracle " Ki said.
"Are you going to tell me what's up?" Siris asked.
"Not yet." Ki said.
Siris left the apartment, and Ki began packing his few things. Jessica, his shipmate and girlfriend came in.
"What's up?" She asked pushing her brown hair out of her eyes. "Is everything okay?"
"Yea, I just need to talk to the Oracle. It's big, may be the key to winning the war."
"What?"
"Trust me." Ki said staring intently at her.
"You know I do." Jessica replied.
"We gotta go." Ki said. They grabbed the rest of their stuff and headed for the docking bays.
