Love's Labors Are Not Lost

One pilot's lover's musings (or maybe more like ramblings) about him. Can you guess who's who?

Disclaimers: I-of course, unfortunately, and quite frankly, obviously-do not own Gundam Wing. The title probably really doesn't even make any sense, but it sounded good at the time.

Warnings: None, really, except maybe that it really didn't turn out quite as well as I'd hoped (like most of the stuff I write). Maybe just a tiny bit angsty and depressing, though I really don't think so.

He looks so peaceful now, not at all like when we first met. He likes to tell me it's all because of me. It's good to know I've made him so happy, but I'll never believe I can take all the credit.

It took him a long time to tell me about his past-and once he finally did, I could see why he was so reluctant to. Even before the war-even in his childhood, if you could really call it that-his life was filled with death and destruction.

He once told me that the war had taught him what love was, and through that, the true value of life. But with that, he also learned guilt. For a long time, he thought about all the lives that had been lost, whether innocent or not. He felt that, in some way, all of their deaths were his fault. And it ate him up inside.

But, he always has been strong. It took a while, and a lot of help from his friends, but he was finally able to come to terms with everything. Just like any soldier, the choices he made may not have been the best, but he did what he felt was right at the time. After all, he's only human, and no one is perfect.

He still has nightmares, though they're getting less frequent the older he gets. But when they do come, I'm always there to hold him, and he's always willing to let me be his strength for him. Just like the battle scars that mark his body, the memories will always be with him, but they too will fade with time.

And now...I'm stuck. I have no idea how to introduce who's talking (actually, I haven't even really decided on who it is in the first place) and which of the pilots they're talking about. So, until I get inspired on how to write that part, I guess I can just leave it up to your imagination?
