Thinking

"Clark?" I whipped my head around. "Clark?"

Damn it! He always does that! Whenever I tell him something, he disappears! I can never find him.

*Disappears?* the Smallvillian in me asks.

Yes! No! Not like magic-disappear, just leave-the-room-really-fast- disappear.
*Really, really fast...*

Oh shut up.

*You're telling yourself to shut up, Chloe.*

Damn it. I'm arguing with myself. Again. That can't be good.

But Clark does disappear pretty fast.

*There's that whole Savior Complex.*

I know...Okay, I'm going to regret this, but I go to my computer and begin to look through all the issues of The Smallville Torch. Clark's in a lot of these.

*Of course he is.*

Shut up.

There's got to be an explanation for Clark saving the day almost every time anything's wrong.

*Meteor rocks.*

SHUT UP!

Mr. and Mrs. Kent did find Clark the day of the meteor shower...

*Look on the bright side, Chlo. He hasn't tried to kill you yet.*

Ha ha. But he has saved me.

*No kidding. He just happens to be in the right place at the right time, huh?*

Yes.

*Always? Yeah, right.*

Oh my God. I just remembered. When Sean froze my foot in the pool, Clark punched through solid ice! Solid ice! I can't believe I didn't realize...

*Superhuman strength.*

And he dug me out of a coffin when I was buried alive. How did he get me out so fast? How did he find me?

*He's psychic.*

He saved me when the coach tried to burn me alive. And there was that time he saved Lex when he drove off a bridge...and he got Ryan out of that hospital without getting caught...

*He can turn invisible.*

...and he saved Lana from the tornadoes...he got his dad and Lana to the hospital when they were affected by the Nicodermous flower...

*Meteor rocks.*

He is not a meteor freak! ...But he does act weird when he's around meteor rocks. From somewhere deep in my mind, I hear myself say, "Statistical fact: Clark can't get within five feet of Lana without turning into freak show."

*He is so a meteor freak.*

Is not! No, no, no, no, no! I refuse to believe that -

*What about the class ring?*

Okay, that was just a bout of normal teenage rebellion.

*From Clark?*

Pete did take off after he found out the class rings were made of meteor rocks. He was pretty freaked out. Hmm...

Pete and Clark have been really close lately. Ever since...since...

Ever since they had that huge fight...when Pete rescued that man from the cornfield.

*...There was a spaceship in the cornfield.*

I can feel my mind going into overdrive. From my memory, images of Clark and snippets of conversation come flying at me almost faster than I can process them.

"Yeah, I saw an alien. He looked a lot like Clark."

Oh.

My.

God.

"Hey Chloe, what's up?"

I snapped out of my trance, and saw Pete in the doorway. "Uh, nothing, I was just thinking."

"That could be dangerous," Pete joked.

"Yeah, I guess it can." I glanced at my computer screen and saw the article I had written about Eric. Superboy. Clark was acting pretty weird then too...he was acting like what Eric did was his fault...he acts like a lot of stuff is his fault...

*Ding ding ding, we have a winner.*

"Earth to Chloe, come in Chloe. What are you thinking about?" Pete asked, waving a hand in front of my face.

"Oh, nothing really. I was just wondering when Clark was going to tell me that he's an alien."
