"Hey, Lana. Not that I mind the fact that my computer is obviously now public domain, but is there something WRONG with your computer?" Chloe asked as she stepped into the Torch office to find Lana in the glow of her computer.
"Actually, my Word processor has fallen into oblivion. I think Pete may have done something with it, just for kicks." Lana said, quickly but subtly exiting from her screen.
Chloe nodded in agreement. "Feel free to borrow my staple gun. But I'll get it back up by tomorrow."
"Not a problem. I'm done anyways. I'm going to head over to the Talon. I'll see you at home."
"Same time, same dinner table." Chloe grinned.
*
Lana's eyes filled with tears as she stepped out of the Torch.
Chloe's dad had told them BOTH that there are two kinds of women. Those you outgrow and those you grow into.
Lana knew she was stunting Chloe's growth when she saw the look on her face at the benefit at the Talon.
Besides---Lana needed to grow too. Clark seemed to be impeding Lana from getting over and out of Smallville, which she vowed she would do as soon as she could.
*
"You have mail!" A cheery voice rung in Clark's ear as he opened his email box.
"It's your lucky day." Chloe ribbed from the other side of the table.
"Funny." Clark replied, opening an email from Chloe, wondering what this could possible hold that Chloe found so lucky.
Clark skimmed the beginning quickly, stopping only when he reached the midpoint.
I'm the girl of your dreams masquerading as your best friend.
"C'mere, Chloe. I think Pete's up to no good in our database again." Clark called out, immediately disregarding the thought that any of these words could actually be meant for HIM from CHLOE.
*
"You found my notes to Clark." Chloe said in an accusing tone as she entered Lana's room.
"I did."
"You sent them to him, not bothering to tell me."
"Only because I knew you'd be too scared. What happened to him scared us both." Lana rushed as Chloe tried to get a word in edgewise.
"It made me realize that Clark isn't what I need anymore. To state it like a Sullivan---I'm outgrowing that tiring mating dance."
"Well, you're no stranger to stealing our words, that's for sure."
"I'm sorry, Chloe, but this had to be done. The fact that you can express yourself like that was proof enough that you were meant for Clark."
"Thank you." Chloe said after a pregnant pause.
"Don't mention it." Lana said, grinning and receiving one in return.
