A New Beginning

The sequel to the Giver

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters or places or people, except for the ones I made up. Okay dokey, let's get this story started!

Jonas awoke in a creamy, beige-colored room, and felt the radiating warmth of a glowing fireplace tucked in the corner of the plain room. He sat up, and only then felt the heavy weight of what seemed like a thousand blankets piled on top of him. Jonas pushed off the stifling burden, and realized just then how tired and achy his body was. It felt as though he weighed a million pounds, and his limbs were rubber bands. He had trouble lifting the light load of a few blankets just a couple of inches off his body. The action strained every muscle and every tendon in his sore, pitiful body. It was a pretty sad thing, to have a boy that completely exhausted and drained of energy. But Jonas knew, that his effort, the one that had completely emptied his body's supply of power, hadn't been in vain. Yes, this torture of physical dwindling was well worth it. It was the price he had to pay to escape he community of no free will. His community was one where the people were shielded from the reality of emotions and feelings, and where the people had no choice but to obey. In fact, this was all they knew. Jonas had only discovered another way when he was selected to be the Receiver of Memory. The memories he received had shown him a world of fun, color, freedom, and, most importantly, love. But, he had also received many bad memories as well. Things that the community had blanketed from his and the peoples mind. He had learned of war and pain and torture and suffering in the worst degree. He had been scared of these things at first, and not wanted to except. He had also been mad, mad that his community had stolen from him and everyone else the pleasures of a normal everyday life, mad that they had took away the sense of seeing color, and mad that they killed anyone who had or wanted to be released. The good that the community had blocked out, and all the liberty they had taken away, greatly outweighed the problems that imposed a problem. So, with the help of the Giver, the one who transmitted him memories, he fled his town. Jonas had also carried along with him a baby boy named Gabriel, who was going to be released in the coming days. He had biked for so many days through treacherous woods without little or no food or water. When it became winter, the harsh winter winds and freezing cold temperatures had just about brought Jonas down. But, with the determination of a strong mind ready to prevail, Jonas and Gabe had survived and made it to civilization. Or, pondered Jonas in the dimly lit room, had Gabe made it? And where was he? This was the first time Jonas had awoken from the end of his voyage, and he had no idea where he was. ? K this was the chapter for all those non-book readers. More excitin next. Really.
