We wonder, as we plunder, how we'll find a new way.
Chapter 1
Zidane sat on the small rock, thinking about how all these things had happened. How he had let them die, how he had lost Mikoto, how Vivi had grown i old/i. Sometimes he thought of happy days, other of sad ones. But it didn't matter now, now that he understood just what had become of him...
Your perfect, far superior to your brother, Zidane.
Now he understood just how superior he was, just how perfect.
Now he was the last man standing. The last one breathing, the last one thinking. Even after it had all died away, even after it had all perished.... He... Lived on.
Perfection always has a price... Sometimes it was too great to pay...
"Eiko! Stop being so silly and come down here at once! It's terribly unlady like!!" Hilda roared at the preteen. "Oh fine! But only if I have too!" Lightly the girl bounced down from the rock ledge to where the others were having a picnic. "You haven't changed a bit while I was gone Eiko!" Zidane laughed, his voice rolling out with a small accent he had picked up to annoy them. "Oh I know! But really, when is Dag... Garnet going to get here??!! "Soon," Beatrix murmured, as she watched the sky for any sign that the Queen was coming. "Oka... What's that??" They all stood up to watch the plume of smoke rise up from a few hills away. "Ok god! " A fire?"
No it hadn't been a fire, or some silly mage burning dead monsters. It had been them Prima Rose.
"You don't think that it could have been..." Freya asked uncertainly. "Dagger?!" Fear shot though Zidane's eyes at a mile a minute. Even the silly idea that the Prima Rose could have crashed in such nice weather was ridiculous. "So much smoke..." Amarant whispered from behind the group. "Dagger....?" His voice barely made it out before he felt the twinge inside. It wasn't much, but it told him all he need to know. Taking off at break neck speed Zidane headed for the plume of smoke, the others following not far behind.
Don't you hate it how the people you love always die? Don't you hate it how people never survive long enough to save their last words to you?"
"Today," The white cloaked man began, "We morn the deaths of three loyal, kind and wonderful people. The first is Garnet til Alexandros. We shall morn her death the greatest, for she was our graceful Queen." He paused and waited for the ability to regain himself, it was obvious that he had loved the Queen. " She was proud and spirited. She had great beauty and strength. If not for here we would all have but died long ago.... Garnet had many names, among her people she was called Sarah, among her friends she was called Dagger." He paused as a cry came from Eiko and Beatrix's direction. "She shall always have those names with her, and we hope that now she can rest in peace. In peace with her dear mother and father, both adopted and natural." Many more cries rose up from the crowd as Garnet til Alexandros was lowered into the temple of earth by her mother and father.
She hadn't died alone, Zidane thought bitterly, she had died with Steiner and Quina. They had all found rest together... All of them, and now he was the only one left.
A/n: This would be my first story and I would love to have some feed back! So tell me what you think!
