It was with heavy hearts that the Fellowship journeyed to Lothlorien; Gandalf had fallen into the depths of Moria and their quest seemed hopeless. The hobbits were in great mourning, forcing the others to cast away their grief and remain strong. They couldn't give up now, they couldn't let Gandalf's death be in vain.
Legolas stopped, waiting for the others to catch up to him. It was a gorgeous day, despite the sorrow in the air, and Legolas couldn't help but smile as the breeze brushed his hair.
I hear the wind call your name
It calls me back home again.
It sparks up the fire - a flame that still burns
Oh it's to you I'll always return.
I still feel your breath on my skin
I hear your voice deep within.
The sound of my lover - a feeling so strong
It's to you - I'll always belong.
Legolas felt his heart lighten as he thought about who was waiting for him in Lothlorien. His feet wanted to run, even more he felt the insistent pull towards Caras Galadon. He longed to fall into those waiting arms, to be held tightly and kissed gently. 'Oh, why do they go so slowly,' he thought, 'Can't they hear the voice urging us on?' But he refused to be troubled any longer.
Now I know it's true
My every road leads to you
And in the hour of darkness darlin'
Your light gets me through.
It had been many years since he had last set foot in the Golden Wood, but his love for it had not lessened. As every step bought him nearer, the tug on his heart grew stronger. Legolas let his eyes close and his thoughts wander to that beautiful elf. Those blue eyes, that long blond hair, the fingers that curved so gracefully around a bow and let an arrow fly strait and true.
Wanna swim in your river - be warmed by your sun
Bathe in your waters - cos you are the one.
I can't stand the distance - I can't dream alone
I can't wait to see you - Ya I'm on my way home.
Legolas opened his eyes and looked up at the sky. He felt like dancing with joy, Gandalf forgotten as his mind thought only of his lover.
Oh I hear the wind call your name
The sound that leads me home again.
It sparks up the fire - a flame that still burns
Oh, it's to you - I will always return.
As the others finally reached him, Legolas set a pace even faster than before. The others grumbled at his light step and eager feet, but his hope was catching and soon they all were moving quickly. The fellowship went on, travelling closer and closer to the haven they all yearned for. And as they moved, Legolas' ears picked up a faint whisper on the wind.
"Haldir"
