Out of Reach

Author's Notes- This is just a very short story focusing on one scene in the second movie. This scene lingered in my mind and wanted me to explore it. I'll state right now that I've never liked Eowyn. I liked her slightly better in the movie than in the book, but she has never been my kind of character. However, I felt sorry for her and wanted to right this. I'm just warning that my view of her might be a bit prejudiced. Well, that's all, enjoy!
Rating- PG
Summery- A short peak at Eowyn's thoughts as she sees Legolas return Arwen's necklace to Aragorn in the second movie.
Spoilers- The Two Towers movie.
Eowyn saw Aragorn and her face lit up.
She had scarcely believed it until she saw it with her own eyes. Aragorn was alive!
All the pain that she had felt when Gimli had told her that he had been lost was replaced with a joy sweeter than any other she had ever felt.
It was strange, there was so much wrong with the world, yet here she was rejoicing.
She was going to go to him, to throw herself at him and tell him how glad she was that he was safe, when she saw him speaking to Legolas.
She decided to wait.
She watched as the elf handed him the necklace that Aragorn always wore. The one that had been given to him by the eleven maiden.
She watched as Aragorn clasped it in his hand and closed his eyes, obviously relieved that it had not been lost. She watched him say something to Legolas, though she could not hear what it was.
But the look on the face spoke volumes and dimmed her joy.
Yes, Aragorn was alive, but he was not hers. His heart belonged to another.
She could see it in his eyes. He loved the woman who gave him that necklace. He loved her as he would never love her, Eowyn.
She wondered what his beloved was like.
Was she beautiful? Surely, she must be. Was she noble? Again, it seemed a given. As was it that she must be kind and generous.
For Eowyn could not imagine Lord Aragorn loving a woman who did not possess those qualities.
Eowyn turned away.
It was foolish of her to carry romantic hopes towards Lord Aragorn. He was not for her.
No. He would never be for her.
He was far out of her reach and nothing would change that.
