Championship for Tommy

By Michael Boller
Chapter 1

Bobcats vs. Sharks George Lopez stepped up to the plate. He slammed the ball into the outfield for a double, scoring a run to increase the Sharks lead to 3-0. Tommy spit and banged his fist into his glove. Why couldn't Rex get a strike in there? It was the bottom of the 3rd inning in the Bobcats Little League season opener. Last year the Bobcats were in the bottom of their division and this year it seemed no different. Rex pitched 2 balls and got Tony Peterson to ground out to their shortstop Kenny Fredrick. Tommy heard the names being called out and heard he would be batting first. He stepped up to the plate, touched the plate once, and prepared for the pitch. It was a fast ball right up the middle. Tommy slammed it back, back. Homerun! Tommy trotted around the bases with a smile on his face. He could hear his mother clapping the loudest in the crowd. It was 3-1 now with the Bobcats losing. Eddie "Air" Ball stepped and air was the only thing the ball got. It just went right down the tube for the Bobcats, as the final was 7-1. His mom at the end of the game greeted Tommy. "Our team stinks like sulfur!" complained Tommy. "There, there," soothed Mom "Maybe you can pick up a few more wins against easier teams." "But that was an "easy" team!" said Tommy.
