A/N- The first little clip of a song is "A Sharp Hint of New Tears" by
Dashboard Confessional. The second is "Screaming Infidelities" also by
Dashboard Confessional. This is my first fic ( Reviews are nice but be
gentle please!
The hint of these new tears are sharp.
I try to hold them back.
It's useless.
I am useless against them.
They are beating me with ease.
On the way home
this car hears my confessions.
I think tonight I'll take the long way.
Catherine had managed to keep a mask up at work but it was slowly crumbling. While driving home she began to sort her thoughts. Her ex- husband was dead and the killer had not been found. She would have to be the one to tell Lindsay that she would never see her dad again, and the only person who she wanted to be with right now wasn't with her. Tears began to spill from her eyes. Even though she hated Eddie, she knew Lindsay would've been better off with him rather that having no father figure at all. All she wanted was to be with Grissom. He was always the one she could turn to, but now, when she needed him the most, he wasn't there.
He sat in the car outside of Lady Heather's place. He wanted to talk to her except guilt was shooting through his veins. Grissom knew that Catherine needed him right now. He and Lindsay were the only people that she had left in this world and he was absent from her presence. Taking one final glance at Lady Heather's door, he started his Tahoe and began the drive to Catherine's house.
I'm missing your laugh
How did it break?
And when did your eyes begin to look fake?
I hope you're as happy as you 're pretending.
I am alone
In my defeat I wish I knew you were safely at home.
In the security of her home she began to break. The door to her room was left slightly ajar when Lindsay woke to the sound of her mother crying. Lindsay tiptoed down the hall to comfort her brokenhearted mother. "It's ok mommy. It's ok.It's ok." Grissom didn't bother to knock. He let himself in with the key that Catherine had given him. As he walked down the hall he could hear Catherine crying. He stopped in the doorway to Catherine's bedroom and observed Lindsay making dire attempts to console her mother. Lindsay slowly looked up to see Grissom standing there. As he approached Catherine, he kissed Lindsay on the forehead and she retreated to her bedroom. Gil sat on the bed next to Catherine and gently brushed her hair from her tearstained face. "Hey, Cath," said Grissom softly. Not another word needed to be spoken; he had come. Catherine buried her head in his chest and he held her as she cried. Soothing her ragged breaths, he stroked her hair and held her close. In the security of his arms, Catherine knew she was safe at last.
