I Don't Know Why
"Hermione!"
After all my worries, after all my fears, there she is standing there at the entrance to the great hall. She is alive, revived, thanks to the mandrake potion from Professor Sprout and Madame Pomfrey.
Hermione's face breaks into a radiant smile as she runs toward us. She throws her arms around Harry in a big hug.
She's a beautiful sight to see. I can't help my own face from breaking out in a big grin. I had been so frightened, so helpless, seeing her lying there petrified in the hospital wing. I...I had missed her. Despite her annoying brilliance, I had missed her. Well of course I missed her. She and Harry are my best friends after all.
She breaks off her hug with Harry. She turns to me, about to throw her arms around my neck, when suddenly she stops herself. Suddenly things are awkward. I don't know why. I clear my throat in an attempt to dispel some of the uneasiness. It doesn't work so I thrust my hand out at her. She looks as confused as I feel as she takes my proffered hand in a quick, friendly shake.
It's awkward and I don't know why. I only know...I only know that I think I would have liked to hug her too.
The End
The Goblet of Fire:
"Next time there's a ball, ask me before someone else does and not as a last resort!"
Ron mouthed soundlessly like a goldfish out of water as Hermione turned on her heel and stormed up the girl's staircase to bed. Ron turned to look at Harry. "Well," he sputtered, looking thunderstruck, "well-that just proves it-completely missed the point."
