A/n: I devote this incredibly random piece of work to Tyoko, because without our very random conversation on Escaflowne, this would have never have come about. Generally, the topic became 'how did Newton get there, anyhow' and that's where this… thing… came from. Please review and make me feel special. I don't write comedy - even in its simplist form - very often, and this is a slight attempt. Pssst! Too get the full effect, read in aloud and in very sarcastic tones. If someone hears you, though, you may they have this ("#$%^&???!!!") kind of reaction. ^.^;; On with the ficlet.

Disclaimer: Don't own it. Want to, but sadly I don't.

Dangerous Musings Under Apple Trees

It was a wonderful, clear day, and the sky held a refreshing air of promise. The clouds were light and fluffy, while the sun melted in its own beautiful rays.

An old man with a long white beard sat underneath an apple tree, his thoughts off into his own world. He thought about everything and anything, mostly at the same time. Suddenly his thoughts started to run together, and he realized something.

What if there was another world… a place just like Earth, but with different customs and a different sense of what it was to live?

If there was, he knew he'd leave this forsaken place and go there in an instant.

*CLUNK*

An apple fell from the tree and hit the old man right on top of his head.

"Yowch!"

That's when something that science could not explain happened. A blue light engulfed him and he rose off the ground, the apple following close behind, up into the sky and into the blinding blue light.

Suddenly he was dropped in the middle of a street, where some people were walking. They yelped and scooted out of the way, and all of them eyed him suspiciously. Men didn't fall out of the sky everyday, ya know.

He stood up, brushed himself off and looked around. The place he was in looked somewhat like the place he had been before, except much different. The surroundings reminded him more of a mountain valley town, where the people were very close and knew each other very well and on a first-name basis.

However, these people - and a good lot of them, mind you - were carrying swords on the hilts of their belts, and it seemed to him that this was very common.

And the way they dressed…

And…

OH MY GOD IS THAT A CAT WOMAN?!

He quickly recomposed himself as a young boy ran past, stopped, looked at his terrified expression with earnest, and ran off, leaving a trail of dust behind him.

Bending down to pick up the apple, he conjured an idea from the back of his mind. Maybe, somehow, he could make this world - where ever he was, because Earth certainly didn't have cat-women as inhabitants, he knew for sure - something like Earth, with new technology that defied the laws of gravity. And HE would be the one everyone would praise and remember.

Raising the apple high into the air, Issac Newton, later to be remembered as Emperor Dornkirk, proclaimed to himself (and a few very petrified on-lookers) that he would be the new leader of this world.

Oh, and if only he knew how greatly he would fail…

The End
