In the Night

-----

In the forest outside of Professor Xavier's mansion there were bushes rustling. Kurt Wagner crept silently through, deep in thought. He had been walking for what seemed like hours. After not paying attention to where he was going, he realized he'd gotten at least a mile away from the mansion, but he didn't feel like teleporting. The walk would clear his head.

Earlier that evening, he and his girlfriend had gotten into a fight. It wasn't serious, because she was just in a bad mood that day, but she said some things that upset him. Some of the things she had called him were 'freak' and 'monster.' Kurt knew he shouldn't let name-calling get to him, but he was really self-conscious about his appearance. Usually it wouldn't upset him much because he was used to people thinking he was a freak, but it hurt when people he liked said things like that. So he had teleported outside and began walking around, trying to calm himself down and think of what he should do.

When he reached the edge of the forest and stared up at the mansion, he decided there was nothing else to do. Within seconds he had teleported out of the forest with a BAMF! and into his room. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he realized there was someone on his bed. It was her.

"Kurt..." Her soft voice met his ears and he braced himself for her to start yelling at him again.

She was silent and so he risked talking. "What is it, liebling?"

He heard a small sigh and she got up. "I'm sorry I yelled at you. You didn't do anything wrong and I just - blew up." She was now standing in front of him. "I haven't been in the best of moods lately, and I know that's no excuse."

She stopped, staring at him and trying to make out his expression in the dark. There was a pale light that shone through the half closed window, creating a shadow around his eyes.

"And I'm sorry about what I called you," She slowly stepped closer, allowing herself to be just barely against him. "I know it hurts you when someone calls you names like that, and you have to believe me, I didn't mean what I said. Despite what I said, I think you're anything but a freak or a monster."

Kurt slowly put an arm around her waist and pulled her slightly closer, his other arm wrapping around her shoulders. His thumb rubbed her shoulder gently and he smiled. "I know, liebling."

She smiled and put her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. Her hands ran through his curly hair and stroked the short fur on the back of his neck. Kurt shuddered slightly.

"So you are not angry anymore, ja?"

The girl in his arms nodded and looked up at him. "No, I'm not. After you left I thought about what happened and I realized how stupid the whole thing was."

"Vell I did valk in on you getting out of the shower." Kurt said slyly, relieved that his blush couldn't be seen underneath his fur.

The brunette shrugged. "Yeah but unless it was intentional I really shouldn't be too angry. It was an accident, right?"

"Of course."

"Then I have no reason to be angry."

"Good," Kurt said softly, lifting her chin up so he could look at her. She blinked up at him and he slowly lowered his head to kiss her. His eyes drooped shut, as did hers, and they kissed each other softly.

When Kurt pulled away, he nuzzled his face against her cheek and then rested his head against hers.

"I love you, Kurt," she murmured, holding him tighter.

Kurt smiled and nuzzled her face again. "I love you too, liebling."

And they held each other for a long time, content to be in each other's arms.
