The rain raged outside. The wind whipping at the trees and windows of Rivendell but inside Legolas and Aragorn lay in each others arms wrapped in a blanket. Legolas looked over to Aragorn who had been sleeping sounding but was now awake and gazing back at his lover.

"Did I wake you?" Legolas asked softly.

Aragorn smiled slightly and shook his head.

"I was barely sleeping anyway," he assured the blonde elf.

Legolas moved out of Aragorn's arms ignoring the protest from said King of Gondor and walked over to the window. Aragorn watched the blonde archers every step and sighed when said elf stopped at the window and looked out.

"Why do you love the rain so?" Aragorn asked sitting up.

Legolas looked sadly over to his love but said nothing. Aragorn looked back into the elf's eyes and knew what was bothering him.

"You still long for the sea?" he questioned quietly.

Legolas looked at the floor and nodded slowly.

"Then go," Aragorn said sadly.

Legolas' head snapped up to meet the eyes of the King.

"I will not leave you." Legolas stated.

"But you promised Gimli and -"

"He understands. In fact he is relieved, he does not want to revisit Fangorn and I certainly do not want to leave you for dark, damp caves. This is better. Trust me," Legolas said.

Aragorn sighed once again and got out of the bed. He walked over to Legolas and put his arms around him and they both looked out over the courtyard.

"You'll go," said Aragorn firmly in the elf's ear.

"Ara-"

"No! I would much rather you go and be happy then have you stay here and be miserable," said Aragorn holding Legolas at arms length and looking at his face.

"I would not be miserable," Legolas protested.

"You would. You know I am bound to Arwen. You must go but you must promise me one thing," Aragorn said.

"Yes?"

"Never forget I love you."

"Never!" said Legolas, his eyes wide as if he did not believe Aragorn would doubt it. "And you must never forget I love you."

"Never," Aragorn smiled at him.

"Now today we will have the best day together and we will feast tonight. You will leave tomorrow," said Aragorn.

"I will return to you," Legolas said.

"We will see. Now get dressed we must enjoy the entire day," said Aragorn.

"But it is raining!" Legolas said unable to contain his giggles. As always he could never disguise his emotions when he was around his love.

"And?"

"Well.we'll get wet," said Legolas reasonably.

"Perhaps but does that matter? Is it not just water?" Asked Aragorn as they both finished getting dressed.

Aragorn grabbed Legolas' hand and led him out of the room.

The next day Legolas and Gimli left for a tour of the Fangorn forest and the glittering caves. Aragorn lived out the rest of his life happily with Arwen and his children. On the 2nd of March in the year 1541 Legolas returned to Gondor to visit his old friend and love. He saw Arwen and she told him tearfully what had happened. Legolas was so grief stricken that he did not leave the body of Argorn for two days. After the two days he decided Aragorn would not want him to grieve as he had once told him. He built a boat and he and Gimli sailed over the sea. Legolas kept his promise to Aragorn son of Arathorn. He never did forget how much he loved him.
