Title: Brazil Here I Come

A/N: A short ficlet about the boa constrictor in HP 1. It's from the boa's point of view and is slightly humorous. Well, go on, give it a wave and don't forget to review! Extra Note: this will have an epilogue (to be posted soon) but it's on my home computer. Just a little note. Please review!
I was bored. It was certainly nice in here but boring. Dreadfully so. I glared at the people pressing in on my cages but if I did anything they'd crowd more. That fat boy was the worst. Him and his nasty friend. They were the worst type of starers. Finally them and the big man left. I almost breathed a sigh of relief but the thin boy arrived then. I realized something was different about this boy. Something snake-like. I did the only thing a sensible snake wouldn't. I winked.
The boy's eyes widened. He looked around quickly and then winked back. I jabbed my tail at the big people and said, "I get that all the time."
He didn't understand me exactly but he got the drift. Hmm, maybe humans weren't as useless as they looked. "I know. It must be really annoying," the boy murmured in Snake.
I nodded. This conversation was the first one I'd had in ages and I wasn't going to stop now.
"Where do you come from?" asked the boy.
I jabbed my tail toward the little sign that hung nearby. The boy stared at it. "Was it nice in Brazil?"
I jabbed again and he continued reading. "Bred in captivity," he read, "I see. That's me as well."
Suddenly there was a yell that startled both the boy and me.
"PIERS! DAD! YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THIS SNAKE IS DOING!" The fat boy shoved the thin one out of the way as his friend and father ran up to my cage.
Suddenly the glass vanished. I could taste air again! I was free! I slid out over the bar and dropped heavily onto the ground. As I slithered by the boy sitting on the ground I whispered, "Brazil, here I come. Thanks amigo."
I slithered toward the door and made my escape. Now all that was left was to sneak onto a boat headed for South America. That would need more than a kind word and a smile but at least I was free.
