A.N. This poem from the show Everwood. I changed some words though
Luke's Pov
I hear the bell ring and look up to see if it's her. Today is the day I tell Lorelai how I feel. Isn't that what Valentines day is for?
Lorelai come into Luke's but she's not alone.
Who is he? I knew I never had a chance.
Luke goes upstairs hurt, knowing that he will never have what he wants. He sits down and picks up a pen.
Dear Valentine, Lorelai my Love,
Come away with me, if I had one day with you and you only I would enjoy the simple things. The things that in the end when time steals the rest away are the only things we will remember. I will do anything for you, I will take you across a still lake and read poetry to you till you fall sleep, and would never ever think about the hours.
Luke's thought are interrupted by Jess. He comes in the door and heads straight to his room.
Jess's Pov
How could she? I always thought I'd be the one to break her.
Jess sees a pen and paper on his desk.
I guess there is only one way to say goodbye forever
Dear Rory, My Valentine,
These are the things I remember of your love, your warm hand, your warm breath, your arms around mine. I remember feeling safe. Like one person the two of us still at rest, entwined. I remember how it felt the first time you kissed me, it felt like the high dive. What do you remember? How will I ever know what was inside your heart after I am gone? Where do they go, all the things we think and say?
Jess stops writing and looks at a picture of Rory and then a bottle of pills on his dresser that had been there from when he got sick.
Jess chuckles. She had got those pills for him, now he was going to kill himself with the things that she got to make him better.
Luke's Pov
He is now drinking.He picks up the pen again.
Dear Valentine, Sweet Lorelai
If I had one day with you and you only I would admire every line of your face, every strand of your hair, all movement of your hands or your eyes, if I had one perfect day, don't you see my heart beats only for you?
Luke drops the pen and has tears in his eyes and tilts his head back and drinks some more.
Jess's Pov
Now with the bottle of pills in his hand. He sits them down on the desk and begins to write again.
Dear Rory, my one and only Valentine
These are the things I never told you. These are the things I need you to know. That I love you always and my love is so big it will live still after I am gone. I would like to tell you I'd do it differently, I'd like to tell you if I had one more day I'd do everything right, but I know this is not true. I'd make all the same mistakes that is except I wouldn't say goodbye.
Jess with tears in his eyes picks up the handful of pills and opens his mouth.
Knock Knock
Jess jumps and drops the pills.
Luke's Pov
Luke opens the door and smiles. Luke sees Jess, he sees his watery eyes much like how his had been. They were tears of pain, of hurt. Luke notices the pills on the ground and looks up at Jess.
He walks over to him and hugs him, Jess returns the hug and begins to sob. That is when Luke knows what has happened. He was hurt by her, just like how he is hurting.
They go into the living room and sit down knowing each others pain, feeling the depression, but realize they are not alone and find comfort in that. They realize that they can get through this. Without a Valentine.
